    1. [MAMiddle] Dodge family
    2. Donald Kenney
    3. The main Dodge family progenitors were brothers, John and William Ddoge who arrived in Salem, Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1629 from whom descended verly large families who lived in the Essex and Middlesex Counties and spread throughout the United States and Canada. I did not see the original query regarding the Dodge family. A Genealogy of this line of the Dodge Family was published in 1894 and I have a copy. There was an other volumn published a few years back which brings it more or less up to date. Tristam Dodge was apparently not part of this family. I have done some research on this family as they were neighbors of my progenitor in Beverly and Wenham, Massachusetts and together the Dodge and Edwards families established a cemetery in Beverly in the late 1600 which is still in use by our families. One of my distant grandfathers had five daughters all of whom married Dodge men and when one died the daughter married another Dodge. The Dodges have been marrying into the Edwards since the 1600's. Whould be glad to help you find what you are looking for. The Dodge family Association has a web site at www.dodgefamily.org where you should be able to find what ever you are looking for.

    3. Good morning Betty....... My Dodge family came from Essex Co. to Woburn. I have both Dodge brothers who settled there in the 1600s and also an unknown Dodge from that area. At least his mother named him Thomas Dodge, Jr. and he was a "bastard" according to the Essex records, I think it was the Ipswich ones. She was Hodgkins and I can't find anything on that name. Maybe she was a servant????? So I'm a Dodge all over the place. My father was even named Clarence Dodge Blake. I don't remember any Dodges in Arlington Heights when I went to school there. But then 'you're much younger than I'. Priscilla : Re: [MAMiddle] DODGE families If your search for DODGE leads you to Maine, let me know. 1. [MAMiddle] 1770's BLISS, DeBERNIERE, ROBY, GAGE, HOWE
    2. Betty
    3. Hello, Since "Patriot's Day" in MA and ME is approaching, it's a good time to read this little story which is in this morning's MassMoments' e-mail: http://www.massmoments.org/moment.cfm?mid=110 ...in 1775, John Howe arrived in Concord to spy for British General Gage. He quickly gained the trust of the town's leading patriots. They took him to a storehouse, showed him the weapons stockpiled there, and dined with him. Howe recorded every detail in his private journal. The journal was published in the 1820s, and for the next century and a half, historians considered it a true account. There is just one problem: John Howe's journal was a hoax. In 1993 a skeptical scholar proved that if John Howe existed at all, he was not a spy for the British Army and that his journal was fabricated a half-century after the events it purports to describe. .. In February and March 1775, two British "spies" were out and about gathering information for their commander, General Thomas Gage. Ensign Henry De Berniere and a Captain Brown were studying the topography of Concord, the layout of the homes, streets, and bridges, as well as what supplies local Patriots were storing. The men had traveled first to Worcester, and met with Loyalists there, before going on to Marlborough. They were forced to leave when a hostile crowd threatened to attack the home where they were staying. Clearly disguise was not their strong suit. Their next stop was Concord. Upon their arrival, the two asked for directions to the home of Daniel Bliss, a "friend of the government." (Subtlety was another skill they lacked.) .. For Daniel Bliss, at whose home De Berniere and Brown stopped on March 20, 1775, the consequences of loyalty to the Crown were profound. When the townspeople saw that he was entertaining British spies, he was warned that he would not be allowed to "go out of town alive that morning." The British officers invited Bliss to leave with them. That night, he bid farewell to his family and left Concord never to return. ... I'm not positive, but I think the BLISS name is still present in the Lowell area. Betty (near Lowell, MA) P.S. How many are going to get up very early on -- April 19th ?? :o)

    1. [MAMiddle] William and Elizabeth (HUTCHINSON) DODGE
    2. Betty
    3. Hello, I was reviewing my copy of an old article of the "history of Turkey Hill" in Arlington this week, and I noticed something I hadn't remembered. To start with, "Turkey Hill" would have originally been in Charlestown in the 1600's and up through the 1700's and into 1800's. The entire hill was owned by a series of families, until parts of it started being sold off. My ancestor, John HUTCHINSON, started buying all the parts back, so they would be included in what became the very large HUTCHINSON Farm of what is now Winchester, MA. In very early 1800's part of the farm would have been in Arlington. The entire farm covered the top of the "Hill District" of what became Winchester. In the early 1800's, 6 HUTCHINSON siblings, 3 sons, 3 daughters, started living on the farm. The original "homestead" would have stood from 1720's until it burned down in 1880's. Around 1840 a second, smaller farmhouse had been built across the street. I believe my ancestor, Jacob, built it. I haven't got the story straight, yet, but for some reason his married sister and her husband were living in that house. They were William and Elizabeth DODGE. I believe this couple had 4 daughters. But that family and her married sister and their older brother, John HUTCHINSON, all moved to Brooklyn, NY, and remained there. - What I had noticed in that article is that Mrs. Elizabeth DODGE had inherited "Turkey Hill." And the article said that 2 of her daughters still owned it in 1912. That is when they sold it - to a company. From old reports written by the HUTCHINSON's, and from old deeds, it seems that the 3 siblings who had moved to NY remained in close contact with their 3 siblings in Winchester. And, some of them still owned land in Winchester (and Arlington). I am interested in what happened to that DODGE family. Does anyone have information on who their daughters married? (I was suprised to find out this morning that it seems I had not posted queries about them before. I checked the DODGE Boards and Lists.) What I did find is a posting I made 4 years ago on this List which involved information I had found in old deeds in Cambridge. I don't remember whether I ever tried to find out which family William DODGE had come from. Betty (near Lowell, MA) (Remember to check the archives of the Lists and Boards for both your surnames and place-names. Including at www.genforum.com )

    3. Using the text option is fine. I'd remind people to switch back to the image and proof the text. The text is from OCRing the image and can have mistakes. Google uses very high-end OCR software and the mistakes are minimal, but they do occur. The image is the source. Not the text. That is the main reason that I put the images online for all of the transcriptions on the Massachusetts Vital Records Project. Also, by copying the image and the title page of the publication, you don't really need to cite the web site's URL in your documentation. This is because you have the exact same image you'd get if you went to a library and photocopied the book. I can add it here because I have been putting GOOGLE BOOKS items on my LAMBERT and other families ever since discovering the "text" option. I might add - yesterday was the first day I found items from the Boston Evening Transcript in the GOOGLE NEWS ARCHIVE. This appears to be a new addition to that database. 3. Hi John, Thank you for this "hint." I've been trying different things just now, and I was able to "Send to" this page to my computer. It went into "my Documents" and, from there, I was able to print it out. But, of course, I will need a full-page Magnifying glass to read it. :o( I was just mentioning on another List - one "hint" someone gave me about a year ago. In order to "print out" - one page - from an on-line book - you need to go to the top of the page and click on "Plain Text." Once you get that, you can "copy" that page and "paste" into a Word document (Wordpad?), and from there you can print it out. I find it easier for me to "copy" the page and then "paste" it into an e-mail to myself. Once I "receive" it, I can print it out. (Can never remember whether this is for Google / Book or HeritageQuest / Book.) However, I tried this with this "newspaper article," and, as has happened many times, all that printed out was the "title" of the article and "none" of the text. Betty (near Lowell, MA) P.S. During the coming week, I'm going to have to look up "how to" use the keys on my keyboard - for other things beyond typing -- like "Print Screen." I know there is a web page somewhere which provides the list of those instructions. ----- Original Message ----- From: "John Slaughter" <John.Slaughter@Navy-Vet.us> To: <mamiddle@rootsweb.com>; <Jackisr@aol.com> Sent: Saturday, April 03, 2010 7:53 PM Subject: Re: [MAMiddle] LAMBERT - I have looked for this for 7years..... 3. Jackie, The link you provided went to page 24. I found your article. I don't know how to print this stuff from Google. I suppose there is a way. :( But, I know other ways. Prt Scr copies the current screen image to the clipboard and you can then paste into a graphics program. It took two screen shots to get your whole article. I will send it to you as an attachment in a separate e-mail.
