    1. Middlesex chapter, MSOG meeting, Feb. 11 in Sudbury
    2. Dennis Ahern
    3. The featured speaker on Saturday, February 11, 2006, at the Sudbury Senior Center, 40 Fairbank Road, Sudbury, MA will be Elna Headberg, lecturer, family historian and secretary of the Middlesex Chapter of the Massachusetts Society of Genealogists, Inc. Elna's topic will be Anne Hutchinson: The Marlborough Connection. Anne Hutchinson (1591-1643) was a Puritan, a religious pioneer and some believe she was a forerunner of the women's liberation movement. So why did Governor John Winthrop, in 1638, order her banished from the Mass Bay Colony as a woman not fit for society? If so, then why is there a bronze statue of her outside the State House in Boston, MA today? And what is Anne Hutchinson's connection to Marlborough, MA? These matters and more will be revealed by Ms. Headberg along with the use of overheads pictures and a brief video presention. The meeting starts at 1:30 p.m. and concludes at 4:00 p.m. Refreshments will be served. The meeting is free and the public is welcome to attend. Directions: From Route 128, exit Weston/Marlboro onto Route 20 West, thru Weston, Wayland to Sudbury. Turn Right at traffic lights Rte.20 and Concord Road. (Goodnow Library is on Concord Road.) Travel two miles on Concord Road to intersection of Sudbury Center. Move into Left lane approaching traffic light. Take Left onto Hudson Road, Sudbury and travel one mile. Right side, sign says FAIRBANK COMMUNITY CENTER. Turn Right onto Fairbank Road, and park in lot for Sudbury Senior Center. From Route 20 heading East to Sudbury, pass Shaws Supermarket and Sudbury Farms on right side of Boston Post Road (aka Rte 20). Approaching traffic lights, stay in Left lane: Mobile Gas Station at lefthand corner. Bear Left at Union Ave. Union Ave will converge into Concord Road (about one mile ahead). Follow directions above along Concord Road to traffic lights at Sudbury Center intersection. Also please note: In the event of major snow or ice storms meetings will be cancelled. We notify libraries before noontime when we must cancel.

    1. New County Coordinator for Middlesex county
    2. John Slaughter
    3. Good morning, everyone. :-) As of this morning, I am the new County Coordinator for Middlesex county. My responsibilities are maintaining the county web site and overseeing the various town sites. Maintainence is primarily putting information up that is applies to the county as a whole. As the current CC for Essex County, I have been fortunate to get people who are committed to their towns. Consequently, I have heard that many people consider Essex county to be one of the best. I'd like Middlesex to be right up there. Certainly the two counties have considerable ties. Overseeing of town sites is getting Town Coordinators and making sure that they keep their sites up and maintain certain requirements. Most of the towns in Middlesex are in need of TCs. If you are interested, please contact me. This is not a difficult job, except the initial set up. I prefer that sites be hosted on the Rootsweb servers. There are 3 reasons: 1. They are free 2. They are advertising free - these are not the Freepages sites 3. I can access the sites and download all pages as a backup. The main requirements are having the USGenWeb logo on the site, maintaining a Roll Call list, links to neighboring towns, county and state. My requirements are that you have a love of genealogy, history and enjoy helping your fellow genealogists. People commonly request info from me in regard to various towns. I forward those requests to the TC. As TC, you'd need to know where people can go for information. Once things get going, I'll establish a private e-mail list for TCs. You would be required to participate. This is a community. Things are accomplished by cooperating. This is NOT for someone who simply wants a site to put their own views and data. It is for helping others. USGenWeb, http://www.usgenweb.org, is committed to putting all the free information it can online. This is a great opportunity for people who like helping others. Two towns that come quickly to mind are Lexington and Concord where the Revolutionary War began. Anyone who would like to start with these? BTW, I will allow no more than 2 towns per TC. This is going to take some time. I am interested in anything that anyone wants to propose. I want to hear from people about how to improve the site. Lookup volunteers should let me know. If you are oriented on a single town, then that should be noted. I look forward to hearing from you. You are people who have an interest in Middlesex county. Here is your chance to make it a great place to visit online. 1. Lookups reqested please - Pollard Memorial Libary Lowell
    2. Susan Daily
    3. I am wondering if anyone would be willing and available to make some photocopies of the Murphy births at the Pollard Memorial Library from microfiche, years 1860 and on. I have all the births up to 1859, all the marriages, and all the indexed deaths to 1875. Somehow I missed those! (I live in Missouri.) I can ask the Librarians to do it, but it will cost $6 plus copies. I would be willing to pay for postage and cost of copies. The second look-up would be to ask the librarian to print out the 1865 State Census (Excel-transcribed spreadsheet) references to Timothy Murphy married to Ellen (with a George in the family) - need neighbors, if possible - and any references to Cornelius Murphy, who might match as follows: His family group is: Name: Cornelius D. Surnames: CROWLEY Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/AFB.2ACE/1710.2 Message Board Post: Another thing you can do is contact the St. Patrick's Cemetery office and ask them to print out the plot listing. They can fax it to you or mail it to you. They are very nice and helpful (if they aren't busy and you ask kindly). The plot listing will tell you who bought the plot originally and when, and it will show who else is buried in the plot, and also who is "responsible" today for the plot (mostly out of date info, but could yield an additional clue). I presume you found the burial info online, along with the range, and lot numbers, etc. Just provide that to them, along with the name(s). You can do it over the phone. In my case, using the plot purchasing date info, I was able to verify that it was the day after one of many Mary Crowleys died in Lowell, so am reasonably sure she was the one I was looking for. In your case, you may find other family members listed with different last names. Good luck!
