    3. Hi Diane, I'm pretty sure that the expression, "divers hands" means that "many" people contributed to the writing of the book ! And, if you saw the size of the book, you would hope "many, many" people helped to write it ! :o) I did not make note of the technical information, but I did copy the title page: "Illustrated History of Lowell and Vicinity, Massachusetts, ...." Lowell, MA, Courier-Citizen Company, 1897 An FYI is that I believe that anyone can go to the on-line catalog of the public Libraries in our state ! And, you can look for books, and the information about them that way ! http://www.pollardml.org/ And, I think the way it works is that "all ?" books within the "Merrimack Valley Consortium ...." should be in each Library's catalog ! So, you should find the books on Lowell in Billerica and Chelmsford's Libaries, also ! 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/AFB.2ACE/1732.1 Message Board Post: From Ancestry.com FAQ about the SSDI: Who is listed in the SSDI? This database is an index to basic information about persons with Social Security numbers whose deaths have been reported to the Social Security Administration. The death may have been reported by a survivor requesting benefits. It may have been reported in order to stop Social Security Benefits to the deceased. Funeral homes often report deaths to the SSA as a service to family members. Beginning in 1962, the SSA began to use a computer database for processing requests for benefits. About 98% percent of the people in the SSDI died after 1962, but a few death dates go back as far as 1937. Because legal Aliens in the U.S. can obtain a Social Security card, their names may appear in the SSDI if their deaths were reported. Some 400,000 railroad retirees are also included in the SSDI. The Social Security Death Index is not an index to all deceased individuals who have held Social Security Numbers. It is not a database of all deceased individuals who have received Social Security Benefits, or whose families have received survivor benefits. (Porter 1999)

I will look again at the census for Jemima but feel that you have found her death in 1902. She was born in 1833 in England and William was born about 1832 in Prince Edward Island Canada and was a carpenter so I think you've found him as well - dod 1892. I am interested in the marriage for Sarah Jane who was born about 1866 in PEI and also Mary Laura who was born 1872 in PEI ,children of Wm & Jemima. Does the record list the husband's name? Also I think you may have found the death record of a child by William Jr & his wife Emma. I saw the family in Fall River in the census but as yet have not linked it to these Englands. There maybe others in your list that are related and as I have just started this search, I may find a connection later. Thank you so much for your help.
