    2. I don't know of a Wellington Station but Wellington Circle was /is at the junction of Medford. Somerville and Everett, not in Malden but certainly close enough. Malden would be between Medford and Everett. At one time, many years ago, there was a Howard Johnson's Ice Cream Shop there at Wellington Circle. My husband worked there for a few days as a teen ager, but got fired for giving the ice cream away! It would be interesting to see whom it was named for. Never really gave it a thought. Paula

    1. McNEAR, RICE, Maine 1860's, MA 1880-1910
    2. Betty
    3. Hello, At a family gathering last week, I received a few more family-tree-type papers. One of them was a paper which provided a clue to where my great-great-grandfather, Charles RICE, b1850 ME, was buried. The good thing is that it is a photograph of his gravestone; the not-so-good thing is there is no marking on the Xerox copy of the photo which says where the gravestone sits ! But, we do know that he came down to MA around 1872, married here, and, as far as we know, spent the rest of his life here. So, he is buried somewhere in MA. However, the better information is that I found out the married name of one of his sisters. It turns out that Charles was buried in the same plot with Mrs. Amelia (RICE) McNEAR and her husband, Charles McNEAR. Amelia RICE and her twin sister, Emily RICE, were born in Lubec / Eastport, ME, in 1840. I did a little on-line investigating last night, and found the 1880 Census showing Charles and Amelia McNEAR / MacNEAR living in East Boston, MA. They seem to have moved to MA around 1870 as their first son was born in MA in 1872. I also found out that MacNEAR or McNEAR isn't a popular surname. The 1880 Census says that Charles was born in ME, and he might have come from Lincoln County. I couldn't find Charles and Amelia in the 1900 Census, but I did find a George and Winifred McNEAR and a Thomas McNEAR (single). I'm wondering if they were brothers, born in ME in 1845, 1847, and 1848. I did find Charles and Amelia in the 1910 Census living in Medford, MA. Since Charles McNEAR seems to have died shortly after the Census was taken, I'm wondering if their gravesite is in a cemetery in Medford, MA. (Or, possibly in the bordering towns of Winchester or Arlington, MA.) As per my postings on the MEWashin List from the spring of 2005, Charles RICE was the youngest of 10 children, and I have able to gather information about his brothers. But, I had trouble finding marriage information on his 4 sisters, Amelia, Emily, Maria, and Louisa. Now, I only have 3 to find marriage information on ! Thank you for your time. Betty (near Lowell, MA)

This is an internet site archiver, that saves web pages as they were on certain days. So I checked to see what they had saved for the Boston Globe obituary pages, and got this: http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.boston.com/news/globe/obituaries/ Unfortunately, I missed the obituary I was looking for by one day. Obituaries for many more years can be found (but not viewed) at the following web site: http://oa.newsbank.com/ To read them involves a fee, but at least you can see the search results for the obituaries that exist. You may try using the Internet web archiver for your favorite online newspaper obituary section. Again, go to http://web.archive.org/web to type in a web site as you want to see it in the past.
