    1. Thomas HUTCHINSON m. "Betsey" HOMER, 1813 Cambridge
    2. Betty
    3. Hello, There were many HUTCHINSON patriarchs in MA, and the one I am descended from is George HUTCHINSON who arrived with his brother, Thomas, in ~1630. (Thomas died upon arrival.) The only known son of George is Nathaniel HUTCHINSON, b1633? in Charlestown ! Coming down a few years through Nathaniel's son, Samuel, b1672 (m. Sarah FASCITT), to Samuel's son, Thomas, b1702 (m. Mary IRELAND), to Thomas' son, John, b1745 (m. Sarah FROST), we come to John's son, Thomas M. HUTCHINSON, b1784, who married Elizabeth "Betsey" HOMER in 1813 in West Cambridge, MA. (now Arlington). Within the past few days, I've been reminded that many researchers disagree about the HUTCHINSON families who either lived or married in Cambridge, MA (or Charlestown, MA). I have the "History of Arlington" and it mentions the marriages of a Thomas HUTCHINSON and Betsey HOMER in 1813. And, it mentions the marriage of a Thomas HUTCHINSON and Betsey BLACKINGTON in 1823. But, it does not say whether they are the same person ! Some people believe that Mrs. Betsey HUTCHINSON died around 1822, possibly in childbirth, and then Thomas M. HUTCHINSON remarried to Betsey BLACKINGTON, and had an additional son, Thomas Kittridge HUTCHINSON, in 1824. (Thomas and Betsey (HOMER) HUTCHINSON had either 6 or 7 children, including sons, John, b~1815, Thomas O., b1817, and my ancestor, Jacob Homer, b1818, who married Eliza Ann CROSBY, daughter of John CROSBY of West Cambridge, MA.) But, some people believe that Betsey BLACKINGTON married the Thomas HUTCHINSON, b1800 in Lyndeboro, NH. This Thomas was the son of Thomas b1753 in Andover, MA, and was descended from Richard HUTCHINSON of 1600's Salem and Danvers, MA. In addition, there was a 3rd marriage which is questioned: Some say that Thomas HUTCHINSON, b1800 NH, had a second wife, Lavina PAGE (Lavinia PAIGE??). But, some say that Lavina PAGE was the 3rd wife of Thomas HUTCHINSON, b1784 MA. I was just wondering if there are other opinions on the subject ! .... Also, I've had an opportunity to review my sister's notes on our HUTCHINSON (and CROSBY) extended family tree ! And, I'd like to mention that "Betsey" HOMER, b1786 MA, seems to have been the daughter of (Capt.) Jacob HOMER, b1764 Boston, MA, and his wife, Elizabeth LORING, b1766 Boston, MA. However, Jacob and Elizabeth HOMER were married in Feb. 1786, and Jacob reportedly "died at sea" during 1786. So, it appears that Elizabeth "Betsey" HOMER was their only child ! (I have not had time to find out if Mrs. Elizabeth HOMER ever remarried ! See seems to have died in Belmont, MA, in 1851.) (Capt.) Jacob HOMER seems to have been descended from John HOMER, who arrived in Boston ~1690 from London, England. The "History of Arlington" mentions the marriage of Betsey HOMER to Thomas HUTCHINSON, of Charlestown, in 1813. But, it also mentions the marriage of an Elizabeth HOMER, of Boston, to a John WINNECK, in 1788. It also mentions an Eleazer HOMER, who had sons, Alfred and Orlando, and a William HOMER who had daughters, Adeline, Mary, Maria, and son, William. (As per my posting a few days ago, the WELLINGTON and HOMER families were interconnected in that area. For instance, I had mentioned the obituary of Horace HOMER, who was a son of William HOMER and Adeline WELLINGTON. Adeline seems to have been one of the many children of Jeduthun WELLINGTON and Susannah ______. Mrs. Susannah WELLINGTON died in 1802, and in 1803 he married Elizabeth WINNECK.) Thank you for your time. Betty (near Lowell, MA) P.S. As I've mentioned before, during the 1940's, my family moved into one of the HUTCHINSON Farmhouses in Winchester, which had been inherited by my father's grandmother. But, Winchester didn't become a town until ~1850, until then it was part of Woburn, I believe. So, even though this line of HUTCHINSON men was of Charlestown in the 1600's and Woburn in the 1700's, some of the land remained in HUTCHINSON hands - throughout ! And, I believe that the HUTCHINSON's in my line were also known to have been in Charlestown and Cambridge.

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/AFB.2ACE/1760 Message Board Post: A person asked me for help concerning Susanna (Haswell) Rowson who was the daughter of William Haswell of England. She married Lt. William Roswell in 1786 probably in England and moved to America. She was born in 1762 in England. She died 2 March 1826 in Boston Mass. Some claim Susanna (a famous early author) was a Puritan. The person writing to me said that Puritans did not christen their babies but instead baptized them when they were old enough to choose for themselves. So if she was christened at St. Thomas her family had to have belonged to the Church of England (the Anglican church). One critic says that she was trying to argue that women should be able to preach in Puritan churches, which is an invalid idea at that time. She didn’t come to America until 1793 (after she wrote her book), so it doesn’t make sense that she would care at all about women in Puritan churches. “Puritan” used here is in the strictest sense to refer to the actual Denomination. The Puritans were dissenters from the Church of England. At first, they wanted to purify the national church and get rid of the “Catholic” aspects of it. Although the Puritans who came over on the Mayflower were some of the first settlers, there were a lot of people who came to America who weren’t Puritans. The Puritans kept their lives separate from others who did not share their religion and even disliked other groups of dissenters (like the Quakers, who did let women speak in church). I’m over here in Reno, NV trying to assist this person with information. Is there any person here that can lead me to more detailed information. I need a will of Lt. William Roswell. A church Record of the Church they belonged to in Boston. A cemetery record may help. Do you have some ideas to disprove Susanna was a Puritan? I found William Roswell on the 1800 and 1820 Mass Censuses. Thnaks Charles Barnum, jcnreno@sbcglobal.net

Here's what I have ., from Baltimore, Md. for 1910 and 1920 census's: Ed. J. Walker born 1871 or 67 or 68 in Ma. father/mother born in Ma. Sarah S. maybe born in 1872 ? NY. I will check the 1900 census for Md. There was an Edward born to a Lyman/Harriet Walker in Boyleston?, I think around the same times. He married, I believe an Elizabeth, he was a prospect. The Ed Walker, Sommerville, 1865, that you found had married a Lydia-2nd marriage for her ; I think they had a child, named Ed, in 1867/68? Moses/Sophia - parents. I'd appreciate any help you can offer. Thanks . Ken

    1. Howard E. Strout Photographer Woburn
    2. Diane Bennett
    3. Good Morning, I was wondering if anyone knows how long the Strout Photography Studio was in operation? I found a listing for 1882-1883 and want to know if it was still in business by 1906. We are trying to identify family photos taken by Mr. Strout and the time frame is important clue in identifying them. Thank you, Diane

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/AFB.2ACE/1753.1.1.1.1.2 Message Board Post: I believe the Edward and Sarah Walker that I found in Lowell in 1910-1920-1930 are the same as the Edward and Sarah living with Anna R. Walker in 1900 in that city. In 1910 they are still at 236 Chelmsford St, no longer with Anna, but joined by Sarah's sister Nellie McAnney. Sarah is listed that year as mother of 0. In 1920 and 1930 they have moved to different addresses, but Nellie is still with them, and daughter Anna has been born, and apparently is their only child. The Edward and Lydia Walker living in Somerville in 1870 may have moved to Texas. There's an Edward and Lydia living in Hood Co TX in the 1880 census; they're about the right ages and were both born in Massachusetts. Their son doesn't quite match though. And in Erath Co TX (next to Hood) is a George W Burroughs, also born Mass. and of the right age to match Lydia's brother. So it could be them. I don't know who if any of these people may be related to you, but hopefully this will help sort them out or give you clues for further research. jp
