Hello, This week I have been working on my HUTCHINSON Farms project again ! HUTCHINSON land was in family hands in what is now Winchester from about 1660 through to 1960. (possibly over 300 years) During the 1800's, there were 2 large HUTCHINSON Farms across the street from each other in Winchester. The larger one on Ridge Street was owned by Thomas O. and Mary (MASTERS) HUTCHINSON. Thomas died in 1878 and Mary died in 1919. After finding more information this week, I have become interested in where Thomas and Mary's gravesite is in the Wildwood Cemetery in Winchester ! When I went to find information on the Cemetery, and find their mailing address, I came across this very nice description of the history of the cemeteries in Winchester on the town's web site: http://www.winchester.us/ArchivalCenter/cemetery.html My great-grandmother inherited that HUTCHINSON Farm from the HUTCHINSON's (single) children in 1936. (And, we lived in that farmhouse from 1946 to 1952.) Mrs. Louise (RICE) KIDDER's mother, Adelaide (HUTCHINSON) RICE, was their cousin ! Betty (near Lowell, MA) P.S. For the people on the MAMiddle List, my sister went through some old papers last night and discovered a reference to the "house fire." The large fire happened in 1883 ! And, we had thought that it was just the farmhouse and the adjoining barn which burned. The reference said that Thomas and Mary HUTCHINSON had a large, ornate farmhouse, with a carriage house, the barn, and other outbuildings --- where many "social events" took place ! Evidently they held many parties and dinners in the home ! We sure wish we had a picture of what that house looked like ! We were only toddlers when we moved into the replacement farmhouse, and it was just a basic, two-story, old farmhouse - with very few amenities - - and, as my great-uncle used to say ... "built with short nails." As far as Census data goes, the only year when Thomas and Mary didn't live at 21 Ridge St. was 1900 ! They lived nearby on High St. So, I am wondering how many years went by between the house fire in 1883 .. and the building of the replacement house ! (I also remembered that they probably did not have "home insurance" .. in the 1880's !)

Powers, Jr., is listed as age 2, living in the household with his father Joseph A. (age 27), mother Mary C. (age 22), and aunt Ellen C. Carney, age 20. The family lived on Cambridge Street. He had a younger brother, Ralph Francis Powers, born in 1910 after the census was taken. Also would be happy to find additional information on parents Joseph and Mary Catherine Carney Powers.
