    2. Suzanne Hardebeck
    3. Supposedly one of my ancestors-Thomas Smith and wife Abigail are buried in a family plot in "the Sudbury Cemetery" (date of death 1727-1730). When I pull up cemeteries in Sudbury I find around 23. How do I figure out which one they are in. Supposedly it is mentioned in Epitaphs in Old Burial Ground, Sudbury Mass but I don't know how to access it. I am flying up on Wednesday and would like to know where to look before I get up there. Also where are records kept that are not in the Commonwealth Museum and State Archives.

    1. TALMADGE Family, 1920's MA (LEWIS)
    2. Betty
    3. Hello, In yesterday's mail, I received a "death notice" from a newspaper in or near Gardena, CA. It was for Mrs. Helen (LEWIS) TALMADGE from 1972. I had written to the Gardena Library asking for research, as I have been unable to find out who Helen LEWIS married, and whether she and her husband had children (in MA or CA?). The "death notice" is very brief, and it does not mention her husband. So, perhaps he had passed many years before, or they were divorced ! Helen's children are listed as Mrs. Mariam CORPLE or CORPIE ("death record" says Mariam COYNE), and then Richard TALMADGE, Robert TALMADGE, Peter TALMADGE, and Carl TALMADGE. I believe that Helen's younger brother had already moved to Gardena, CA, and married out there, so perhaps Helen and her husband moved out there to live near them ! This is about all I know about this family, so I guess this is just an FYI .. for people who might have TALMADGE on their family tree ! By the way, the Library was unable to find a death-notice or obituary for John LEWIS from ~1962, even though he and his family had lived there for many years ! But, the lady in the Reference Dept. explained that publishing obituaries in CA ... "is not the norm." I was surprised at this ! Betty (near Lowell, MA) (As per my other postings, Helen was one of 13 LEWIS children growing up in Stoneham, MA, from ~1881 until the parents' deaths in 1923 and 1924.) (By the way, I have found out that another brother, Arthur LEWIS, moved to Sandwich, NH, and had a small farm there. And, that must have been where their father went to live when he found out he had cancer !)

    1. 1930 Census look-up, Joseph KERR (MacLEAN)
    2. Betty
    3. Hello, I had a nice surprise in the mailbox yesterday. Two letters from Libraries on the West Coast (WA and CA). And, I now have more information for my family-tree research. My great-grandfather had come down from Quebec Province around 1872, and his sister came down ~1879, and their 2 younger brothers, Joseph and Robert KERR, came down in the early 1880's ! They married near Everett, MA, in the late 1880's, and I have had the suspicion that they married 2 sisters from a Scottish family. Around 1900, both couples moved to Everett, WA, and remained there. (Or, so I thought !) They always shared a home, and neither couple had children ! Yesterday I received 3 out of 4 obituaries, and my suspicion was correct. The 2 KERR brothers married 2 MacLEAN sisters.* They had moved to WA State around 1900, but during the 1920's both sisters had passed on. Robert KERR lived to Age 82, and his 1950 obituary stated that his brother, Joseph KERR, was then living in Dorchester, MA. I have no way of knowing when Joe KERR moved back to Massachusetts. But, I was wondering if someone could see if he returned after the death of his wife, and might be in the 1930 Census. Their older brother had remained in Everett / Malden, MA, and died suddenly in 1905. But, they had a sister, Mrs. Mary McINNES, who lived in Somerville. (I don't know when she died.) (It's strange but I never heard my grandfather mention having an uncle in Boston.) When Robert KERR died in 1950, his obituary stated he was survived by his brother, and then a nephew, Arthur YOUNG, in MA. I have "no clue" who this man is ! (The only possibility is that a second sister had married a YOUNG and also came down to MA.) ??? Thank you for your time ! ENJOY your Sunday ! Betty (near Lowell, MA) FYI: I have more information on this extended family, but this is all I'll post for this morning ! (The parents also came down to MA, and died in 1904 and 1902.) The obituary for Mrs. Joseph KERR mentions another sister, unknown first name - Mrs. Edgar BRISON of Nova Scotia, and William MacLEAN of Maine (as of 1920's). From Census information, it appears that a MacLEAN family from Scotland migrated to Nova Scotia ! But, when "Maggie" and "Sadie" were about 10-12, they came down to MA. (I have access to Censuses up to 1920.) (Still having a problem with the LDS site ! Every time I do a search, when I go back to the previous page, I get a "Page has Expired" notice, so I need to re-enter my information -- every time !)

When the three had arrived near Hartwell's Tavern in the lower bounds of Lincoln, they were attacked by four British officers of a scouting party sent out the preceding evening. Revere and Dawes were taken prisoners, Samuel Prescott was also attacked and had the reins of his horse's bridle cut but he succeeded in making his escape by jumping his horse over the wall; and, taking a circuit- ous route thru Lincoln, he pushed on with the utmost speed to Concord and gave the alarm of the approach of the British. In Groton vitals they had William Longley m.may 15, 1672 Lydia, Deliverance Pease I thought it was a seperate name. do you have ancestry you could look it up in Groton vitals. And it occurred to me late yesterday that Lydia was perhaps the sister of Deliverance Pease. And there you have it. Janice Farnsworth

    1. Thomas GREEN, b1768 Carlisle (Cont'd.)

    3. Hello again, I just remembered that I borrowed the "History of Carlisle" from the Library a few days ago. A quick look shows a Capt. Thomas GREEN active in Carlisle affairs in the 1850's And, there was a Thomas GREEN, active in town affairs during 1830's to 1860's. Would this have been the Thomas GREEN, b1768, or his son ? Or, a nephew ? And, I read on-line that the large house still standing in Carlisle Center across from the Library is referred to as "the GREEN house." Betty (near Lowell, MA)

    3. Hello, I think I posted a query about this family a week or two ago, so I'd just like to briefly ask again ... whether anyone knows whether Thomas K. GREEN, b1768 in Carlisle, MA, married and had children ! His parents were Zacheus GREEN, b1731/32 Concord, MA, and Elizabeth KIDDER, b1745 Westford, MA. They reportedly had 10 children between 1766 and 1785. In 1793, while Age ~25, he inherited the "large property" of his grandfather, Thomas "Cornet" KIDDER, in Westford ! I would like to find out if Thomas GREEN (oldest grandson of Thomas) moved to the "KIDDER estate" and how long he lived there. The KIDDER book has no further information on the 10 GREEN children, and I would also like to find out when Thomas Kidder GREEN died ! Thank you for your time ! Enjoy your weekend ! Betty (near Lowell, MA) P.S. I am trying to determine how long "the Thomas (Sr.) KIDDER estate" on Texas Road in Westford remained in KIDDER hands ! Thomas Kidder, b1690 Chelmsford probably bought it between 1710 and 1720. And, his widow and her second husband probably lived there until about 1750 if not longer. I'm wondering if their oldest son moved into the large house in the 1740's, and then left it to their grandson in the 1790's ! And, then did a relative inherit it .. after Thomas GREEN died ?
