My ggrandfather, Thomas Jefferson Malone (s/o William Carroll & Emaline Malone, s/o William & Rachell Malone) was orphaned when he was probably about 2 and adopted by a Clark family in Van, Texas. He took back the Malone name we believe when he was an adult. I believe I found two of his younger brothers living with other families in the 1870 Census, although I can't find a mention of Thomas in that census. Buck (James Buchanan) 13 farm hand in home of John Daniels 28 farmer KY, Ait 24 F KY, Canton Pct 2; and Carol Malone 7 in home of Mary A. Wills 60 TN, Fenis C Willis 23 Farmer TN, Ann Smith 14, Canton Pct I found a J.A. Clark family in the 1880 Van Zandt Texas Census: J.A. Clark 50 SC; C.R. (wife) 48 TN, Thomas Clark 13 TX, Lonzo B Clark, 5 TX, D.E.D. Clark 3 TX, Addie Clark 1 TX. Family members remember hearing that adoptive family visited Thomas and one's name was Jay Clark. I'm wondering if C.R. Clark from TN could possibly be a Malone relative who married J.A. Clark, and if this is my Thomas, that is how he ended up in their family. Does anyone have information of other Malones that were in Van Zandt, Kaufman or Smith Counties in Texas during this time period (1870 -)? Also, Randolph Malone's book list three other siblings of Thomas Jefferson Malone that were born in TX that I had never heard of: Nancy E Malone B 1860 TN/TN (W. Carroll was found on the 1860 Census in TX) Yancy Malone (B 1961 TX) Carrol Malone b 1863 TX These are new additions to the information I have on William Carrol Malone's children. How do we know that they are actually his children? Gwinnetta Malone Crowell
Van Zandt county is very close to Ellis County, but I just have not made the connection with my Solomon Malone which was in Ellis county in the 1860 censes, hmmm, maybe brothers? Solomon's 2 older sons were married in Lamar County around 1880 (also 2 girls to Solomon and first wife) John H. Malone is our GGGrandfather. Mark A. Malone is his brother. John H lost his first wife in 1885 in child birth. He married again, but we have lost him. We know he had another child with 2nd wife. not sure of her name, some dispute on who he married. we have 2 names on 2nd wife, but assume it is last name Lamb. garys@arkansas.net ----- Original Message ----- From: <Gacrowell@aol.com> To: <MALONE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, January 10, 2002 10:42 AM Subject: [MALONE-L] Malones in Van Zandt County, Texas > My ggrandfather, Thomas Jefferson Malone (s/o William Carroll & Emaline > Malone, s/o William & Rachell Malone) was orphaned when he was probably about > 2 and adopted by a Clark family in Van, Texas.
