Different older family members seem to agree to have heard about the attach when they were moving (to where I have no idea). They were in Van Zandt County in 1860 and William Carroll Malone applied for his pension in Kaufman in 1865. Perhaps they were moving to Carthage -- or another thought is they might have been moving from Van Zandt County, Tx back to Tennessee when it happened. I don't have a map in front of me, but I wonder if that might have been a route from East Texas up to Tennessee. I keep digging.
