I just went to a site which I thought might have some information on any Indian trouble in the time frame you mentioned. I truly doubt that there was Indian trouble in that particular area of Texas in the time frame. Carthage is located in Panola, County which abuts the Louisiana State line. By the 1860s there was no Indian trouble in Dallas and that was far to the west of Carthage. I think you have been given bad information. I suggest that you call either the Chamber of Commerce in Carthage or the public Library in Carthage and request information from them. I am pasting in the url for the site I went to. It is a State of Texas run site. <http://www.tsha.utexas.edu/handbook/online/articles/view/PP/hcp2.html> If I run into anything else I will let you know. Gordon Hale Grand Prairie, Texas I think that it is far more likely that your ancestor was killed by marauding Yankee soldiers or outlaws than Indians. Or the Indians might have been just outlaws, not fighting as tribal members.
