Participating in it will not give you any specific genealogical information for your own family or research. There are several firms which are doing family name research projects on specific surnames. They are testing the y-chromosomes of male surname descendants to find common ancestors between two or more individuals. This also will not pinpoint a specific ancestor, but will provide the knowledge that you and someone else are descended from a common ancestor. We are currently doing a surname study on the Walker family, the website address is below. We have links on our website to other sites that provide information about this kind of DNA project if anyone is interested in pursuing it.
