(Birthdates & Birthplaces are on their tombstones in Jackson, Tennessee.) These ggrandparents of mine came from Ireland and lived in Jackson, Tennessee. Grandfather John worked for the railroad, especially the Illinois Central Railroad. All 4 sons also worked in Jackson, Tennessee, for the Illinois Central Railroad. Sons were: John Francis (J. 2. Hi Everyone! I only have one Malone to research because I haven't been able to find any more information on him. His name was John MALONE and he was my great-grandfather. My great-grandmother's name was Vera Mae HANSON. The only information I have for him is that they were married 11 Nov 1911 and I believe he may have been born 22 Aug 1881. No proof for either date so far. Their children were Mary Louise (my grandmother), Lee, and Lloyd. Any suggestions are welcome also! Sincerely, Angie

A 1900 census for Sugar Notch shows my grandmother Catherine Jane living with her Uncle Bernard - she was 23 and single - and both parents were dead. Nearly all of my paternal line originate from Doona, Ballycroy, County Mayo. Most imigrated to Sugar Notch/Wilkes-Barre Pennsylvania and worked in the anthracite coal mines, but subsequent generations moved to New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. Other affiliated families: Murray, Kane, Dougherty, McGinty, Ginley, Duffy, Durkin, McManamon, Corrigan, Caffrey, Conway, Carlin. Hope to share info with researchers in the Luzerne County area. 3. Bev, After reading Denise's post and then yours, I'm wondering if our lines don't all converge in Washington County, PA. > His parents: > John MALONE > b. 6 December 1830 Smith Twp., Washington Co., Pa. > d. 1 April 1899 Smith Twp., Washington Co., Pa. > m. Sarah Ann SLEITH b. Ireland > Bef. 1852 Washington Co., Pa. > > His parents: > William MALONE > b. 10 May 1808 Candor, Washington Co., Pa. > d. 17 July 1881 Washington Co., Pa. > m. Ruth Ann BEVINGTON b. Pa. > 23 March 1830 Washington Co., Pa. > > His parents: > John MALONE > Sarah ----------- As Denise noted, my gggg-grandfather's eldest daughter, Sarah, was born in MD, and all his subsequent children were born in PA, apparently in Washington County, in the 1783-1800 time period. Your William, being born in 1808, would be in line to be a nephew of my Daniel, so maybe he and John were brothers? That's a thought worth pursuing. My Daniel named one of his sons William, and his eldest daughter was Sarah. Your William's birth year of 1808 also makes him a contemporary of Denise's Jacob. Makes me wonder if there weren't a family of Malones that came over together........!?!? Thanks for the post.......you've given me some food for thought, and I know now that I need to do some Washington County related searching. Pity I'm here in CA!!! Regards, John

No > Jacobs at all. I have several group sheets on the Daniel Malone family in > Columbiana Co. Ohio. I'm not sure if we are connected or not. My gggg-grandfather, Daniel Malone, had a son named Jacob, who was born circa 1791. According to my records, Jacob married a woman named Ann, who was born in Virginia, and they had three children; Jacob Jr. approx 1829., Samuel, approx 1829, and Hiram C., in 1832. Jacob and Ann were still in Columbiana County for the 1850 census. There may yet be a connection, because I am not awawre of "non-related" Malone's being in Columbiana County that early, and because there are some common names; Jacob, as mentioned, plus my ggg-grandfather , Abraham G. Malone, named one of his sons John Westley, and Abraham's brother Daniel named a son Henry. (To clarify, my gggg-grandfather Daniel had a son named Daniel who married a Margaret Wiseman.) Another possible connection, Abraham also had a son named William H. Maylone, and I believe that I have seen him referred to as William Henry Harrison Maylone. I can't a supporting record to verify that, however. According to my records, which are NOT originals (although I have an inclination to believe them), we were Malones for the 1850 census and Maylones for the 1860 census, although my gg-grandfather, who came to California in 1852, was already a Maylone. Some researchers change the name to Maylone all the way back through the Columbiana County period, but I believe that is a convenience, because you can't discern the spelling simply by this or that generation. For example, my ggg-grandfather Abraham is referred to as Maylone, because he lived until 1882 and used the Maylone name for some 30 years, but when he married Nancy Workman, the accounts referred to him as Malone, yet there were members of subsequent generations who died young and were interred as Malones. I also believe that there were Malones who left Columbiana County before the name change and did not subsequently change the spelling. > Daniel listed from Ireland with name spelled Maylone and wife name of Mary > (perhaps last name of Wiseman). Children named were Abraham G. Malone born > ca. l797; Daniel born ca l783; David R. born l8 August l793; Jacob born l791; > Sarah born ca l779; Eleanor born ca l789; and one possible son named William; > The first daughter Sarah is listed as being born in MD while all the rest are > born Washington Co. 1. [MALONE-L] Re: MALONE-D Digest V00 #57
    2. Hi again fellow Malone researchers; I am repeating my brick wall as I have communicated with several of you before on this MALONE line. John Maylone about your family in Columbiana Co. Ohio especially. My 5th great grandfather was Henry Harrison MALONE (spelled Maylone in Ohio and Maloan on some census records.) He was born 12 October l834 somewhere in Ohio (some records indicate Athens Co. Ohio). He had one brother John W. Malone born 27 July l836 Athens Co. Ohio. Henry Harrison married Mary Campbell and John W. married Phoebe A. Heminger. The parents of these two boys were JACOB MALONE and Elizabeth RIDER who married l9 Dec. l833 in Columbiana Co. Ohio. I have never been able to determine the parents of Jacob Malone. I know from census records that the Riders were from PA before coming to Ohio. And I have never been able to connect my Malone line to the Virginia and southern Malone lines in the Randolph book. No Jacobs at all. I have several group sheets on the Daniel Malone family in Columbiana Co. Ohio. Daniel listed from Ireland with name spelled Maylone and wife name of Mary (perhaps last name of Wiseman). Children named were Abraham G. Malone born ca. l797; Daniel born ca l783; David R. born l8 August l793; Jacob born l791; Sarah born ca l779; Eleanor born ca l789; and one possible son named William; The first daughter Sarah is listed as being born in MD while all the rest are born Washington Co. PA. The son Daniel Malone born l783 is listed as being married to Margaret Wiseman on l5 Jan. l8ll. Have some spouses names on the others if needed. Another sheet I have names Nathaniel MALONE born between l670 and l680 of Princes Edwards Co. Virginia died l732 or after by a will in Surry Co. Virginia. His wifes name is Mary WYNNE. Their first child is named Daniel Malone born l703 in Surry Co. Virginia and wife's name is Mary. Other children named are Drury, Amy, William, Thomas, Nathaniel and two dau. unnamed. Data from a book named Legend of Malones. This book indicates that Nathaniel Malone (born l670-80) was the sone of William Malone. All these from Virginia. I truly believe that my Jacob MALONE is related to the Daniel Malones in Columbiana Co. Ohio but I have check the children of Abraham, Daniel, David, and Jacob, and they have no son named Jacob born l809. Hired researcher concluded that my Malone's were probably from PA and not the Virginia family. Any new thoughts from anyone on this brick wall? Denise Portland, OR dunnd6@aol.com

    1. [MALONE-L] My MALONE family and dead ends.
    2. Ok, Nicole, here are my MALONE ancestors. I don't have much but it just might help someone or me in the long run. I have quite a bit on the LAKE family so if anyone also has them please let me know. A very little on the SLEITH and BEVINGTON families. My G-Grandfather: William Thomas MALONE b. 17 March 1852 Bulger, Washington Co., Pa. d. 6 July 1920 Pittstson Hospital, Luzerne Co. Pa. m. Henrietta LAKE b. Flanders, Morris Co., New Jersey 14 June 1876 Jersey City, Hudson Co., New Jersey His parents: John MALONE b. 6 December 1830 Smith Twp., Washington Co., Pa. d. 1 April 1899 Smith Twp., Washington Co., Pa. m. Sarah Ann SLEITH b. Ireland Bef. 1852 Washington Co., Pa. His parents: William MALONE b. 10 May 1808 Candor, Washington Co., Pa. d. 17 July 1881 Washington Co., Pa. m. Ruth Ann BEVINGTON b. Pa. 23 March 1830 Washington Co., Pa. His parents: John MALONE Sarah ----------- This is all I have on my MALONE family and of course would like more but have come to the proverbial brick wall. Some of the data above was shared with me by some other MALONE descendants and by very helpful people in Washington Co., Pa. I might add that William Thomas MALONE worked on the railroad and it is a mystery to me how someone who lived in Washingon Co., Pa which is in the southwestern part of the state met a woman who lived in the northeastern part of NJ. Could it be because Henrietta's brother (s) worked also for the railroad and they brought home a friend? This kind of thing interests me and to me is the nuts and bolts of genealogy. I doubt if I will ever find out as the people who would've known are long gone. Hope someone recognizes my MALONE family and if so please get in touch as I am most willing to share what I have. Thank you Bev simibev@aol.com

    1. [MALONE-L] My MALONE dead end.
    2. Bettye Heinrich
    3. I have never been able to go back on my MALONE ancestry further than the following: Davidson Co TN in 1823. GALVIN/CALVIN Malone m. Alpha W. Bumpass They were on the 1830 census there with what I assume to be his elderly mother as Alpha's parents were living. I have reason to believe that Galvin/Calvin was connected to the Malones from KY. There was a Benjamin Malone living near them that was probably a relative of about the same age. note: depending on who has read the marriage record the spelling is either Galvin or Calvin. Galvin and Alpha had only 2 known children neither of which are shown on the 1830 census: sons: William Joseph Malone bc 1825 and Thomas George Malone bc 1830. Nothing is known abt Galvin/Calvin beyond what I have shown above. I next find my Malones in Ouachita Parish, LA where Alpha Bumpass Malone had m2 to Dr Wm N T McDonald and her son, Thomas George Malone married Simantha Leonard there on 10 July 1850. No trace of son William Joseph Malone until they serve in the Civil War. Both Thomas George and brother William Joseph were taken prisioners of war and were 'parolled' in June 1865 in Monroe, Ouachita Parish, LA. Btw that date and the 1870 census taking they moved to McLennan Co TX where they are found on the census. My Thomas's wife died and he m2 Mrs. Sarah Holly Woodruff. At that time, Thomas gave 2 of his dghts (Eliza and Sarah) to Isaac and Pretia Malone to raise. Isaac Malone was bc 1815 KY and married Pretia Nix in East Feliciana Parish, LA but eventually removed to central TX. It has been said that he was a cousin to my Malones but I have not been able to make the connection. Obviously they were well acquainted since they lived in nearby TX counties (McLennan and Hill or Hamiton). Isaac married my Eliza Malone after the death of Pretia; he was in his 60s and she was 21. William Joseph Malone was still in McLennan Co TX on the 1880 census but no trace of him after that. Thomas George Malone and Sarah Holly Woodruff had 2 sons: Thomas Edwin and George Washington Malone bc 1882 and 1884. Thomas died 1879 in McLennan Co Tx. Last trace I have of his 2nd family was when widow applied for Civil War pension while living with her son in Milam CO Tx. I hope someone can help me unravel my Malone puzzle. Bettye
