Author: mmaine203 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.maine/217.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Floyd Shuster Maine (Lone Eagle) was a great-uncle to my husband. Ken had met him in his younger years and loved to hear his stories of his life with the Sioux and thereafter. Lone Eagle had written the book as if he had an imaginary brother and what he thought it would be like to have a sibling to be raised with in the tribe. He was also very interested in the geneology of the "Maine" family. He had done all of the research he could in North America but wanted to research further, but had to wait until after WW II was over. His research took him into some of Germany, buy mainly in France. Very interesting and eventually to the province of Mayenne (Maine) until approximately 800 AD. I have a copy of his research if you shall be interested in it. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: LSmith7382 Surnames: Maine, Main, Garvett, Garvitt Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.maine/236.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Wesley Charles Main(e) family was listed in the Bloomfield, WI, census in 1860. The enumerator didn't spell some names correctly, and some of his handwriting is unreadable, so "William C. Mane" was Wesley C. Maine; Elizabeth spelled OK; "Mortin" was Morton; "Hannah Garvett" was Elizabeth's mother; and "Sarah Garvett" was Elizabeth's sister. The "Gibons" family were also living with the Maines at the time. I believe that the "D. B. Maine" family of Bloomfield in the 1860 census were relatives of Wesley C. Maine. Their migration patterns and time periods were the same, and the children's names match up (Albert & Frank) with our Maine branch. Can anyone verify or refute this? 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: Lace_Lynch Surnames: Classification: obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.maine/237/mb.ashx Message Board Post: PALM DESERT, CALIF. - Darryl Allen "Doc" Maine Sr., 66, passed away March 10, 2011, at his home in Palm Desert. He was born July 17, 1944, to Dr. William E. Maine and Sarah Maine in Youngstown, Ohio. Darryl graduated from Boardman High School, where he played first trumpet in the band and he also graduated from Culver Military Academy Naval School, where he also played first trumpet. Before leaving for California in 1970, he taught himself how to play the organ and he performed for many of the most popular lounges in the Mahoning and Trumbull county, Ohio areas. Darryl loved to fish and he always carried his fishing gear around with him, not knowing when he would encounter a new fishing spot, where he might just catch that record breaker. Darryl was also a car fanatic and loved to drag race in his Corvette convertible. Darryl also had a love for exotic pets and he would drive around town with his 10 foot Boa Constrictor wrapped around his shoulders with the top down. He was a musician for 20 years in California and then got into Paintless Dent Repairs, forming his own business "Dentman." He is survived by his daughter, Melissa Maine of Struthers, Ohio; his son, Darryl Maine II of Palm Desert; his sisters, Charlotte Pirko of Charlotte, N.C. and Dawna Cole of Binghamton, N.Y.; his brother, William E. Maine (abt 1824 - ?). In the 1860 census in Bloomfield, Wisconsin he is listed as William C Main with wife Elizabeth and son Martin. Then in 1870 and 1880, he is W. C.
