    3. Hi! Does anyone know which county North Adams, MA is located in? I just received documentation that some of my ancestors were born there. That would explain why I haven't been able to find them in Hampshire County where they were supposed to have been born! :) Thanks for your help! Anne

    3. North Adams is in Berkshire County........... You will need to be familiar with the changes in the counties and their bounderies changes if you do research in New England. For western Massachusetts....... 1.all of western Mass. was part of Middlesex County until 1662 2.all of western Mass. area was changed to Hampshire County in July 1662 3.Franklin County established from Hampshire County in June 1811 4.Hampden County established from Hampshire County in 1812 5.Berkshire County established from Hampshire County in April 1761 However, Hampshire County STILL exists..what it is today is much smaller than in 1662.
