Hello everyone on a cold, wet, and windy day...... - I have several old issues of OLD TIME NEW ENGLAND and Vol. XLIV, Spring 1954, serial # 156 has an article on "Janet Waring Collection of Stencils", by Mrs. Majorie W.vonSuck. ----- I am aware that is issue is little late for Massachusetts Bay list and the Canadian Deerfield list but it is of interest to many. (SOME old Deerfield houses do have stencils on their walls )..... - the following list of names are of the stencilers INDENTIFIED in 1954 . - FURNITURE stenciling done by: ** Ivers White of Ashburnham,Mass, b. 1804 and died 1884 ** George Lord of Portland, Maine b. 1833 and died 1928 ** John Hull, Killingworth,Conn....working in 1832 ** Jarred Johnson, Sheffield, Mass., 1801-1873 ** Thomas Jefferson, Gildersleeve, NY, 1805-1871 ** Joseph Augustus Gibson, New Ipswich,NH, 1812-1875 ** William Page Eaton, Boston,Mass and New Boston,NH, 1819-1904 ------------- WALL stenciling:done by: 1. Moses Eaton, Dublin,NH...1753-1832 2. Moses Eaton,Jr., Hancock, NH, 1796-1886 3. Rusfus Porter ,Boxford,Mass, 1792-1884 (this fellow was known in the Connecticut River Valley area of Conn,Mass,Vt.) not sure about NH 4. Erastus Gates, Plymouth, VT..1811- ? 5.
