    3. Hi Jack, Wish I could say I have them - but I don't have all my Longmeadow photos catalogued. If someone has the burial list for the old Longmeadow Burying Ground maybe they could narrow the search for us. The only Huggins I have is a "gentleman" in the "removed" section of Springfield Cemetery. http://oldbones.net/cpg/displayimage.php?pos=-1918 I have a Charles Ferry (Ferre) in West Springfield, Ashleyville Cemetery d. 1814. Also a stillborn infant son of Luther and Hannah Ferre d. 1798, a Miriam, wife of Capt Joseph Ferre 1787, a John Ferre (d. 1775) and his wife Mary (d.1809), and a Martha (same lot - d.1821), all in Springfield (removed section). Anything in your book about Ezra Stebbins 1731-1796 or Herman Newell d. 1833? Or any discussion of the locations of the sandstone quarries that drew so many settlers to the (east) Longmeadow area? I'm interested in the 1775 - 1825 period. (You know why... gravestones!) Nearly all of the redstone or sandstone gravestones erected around the greater Springfield area during that period were cut from the high-quality Longmeadow stone. Thanks for anything you can share with us. The map was drawn in 1940 by Harry Andrew Wright. The book is published by the Longmeadow Historical Society. In the book are 1880s photos of the Keep Family farmhouse and Colton's General Store. It features Longmeadow personalities Samuel Colton, John Chapman, Eleazer Williams, Stephen Williams, and Mary Ann Booth. If I can be of any help, please ask. Sandy Di Nanni

    3. I will try and be quick as I have to run the K Preppy off to school, Rusty, I enjoyed the link you had to the Photo albums wonderful images and looking around the site lost of interesting stories. Now in "East Longmeadow 75th anniversary" by theTown History Group 1969, as I had it out I found this in reference to the Sandstone Quarries. Actually this is quite allot so to summarize where they were and I can ad more later if you care to learn the entire passages. Three major quarries in the hayday of quarring including most of the 1800's there were 50 or more of the sandstone quarries in operation in the town, emplying several hundred men. These quarries may still be seen throughout the town ( 1969 East Longmeadow) many became watering holes ( swim ponds I imagine) Of them all the three major were, Worcestor quarry on Somers Rd. brown sandstone. Kibbe quarry, produced reddish brown sandstone (doesn't say where) Maynard quarry now ( 1969) known as Redstone lake produced red sandstone that was used for New York University anyway I have to run but there is a more about the revival not much a page and a half of info. However they do state that The foundations for must of the old homes in Longmeadow are of sandstone. Regards, Patricia Ann "Coomes" de Haerne If you happen across some of the "Coomes" in the Old Burying yard in Longmeadow, in Hartford, Enfield, Lebanon, Salem, Marblehead I believe even in Stafford CT, I would love to view those images. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Rusty Clark" <rclark@map.com> To: <MAHAMPDE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, January 20, 2005 11:04 AM Subject: Re: [MAHAMPDEN] Springfield Ancestors > Hi Jack, > > Wish I could say I have them - but I don't have all my Longmeadow photos catalogued.
