We both have the same Great-Grandfather! My Grandfather was Clarence(Dick) Goodniss. Grampa was the only one to change the spelling of his last name. The family lived in Westgranville, MA. in a large two story farm house, on Beech Hill Road. It burnt down about eight years ago. All this I know because I was the last one to own it, sold it in the late 1960's. Which one of our Greataunts or Greatuncles was yours? Needless to say Mitchell was mine, also known as Mike. The reason behind the nickname was he was named after his father and when growing up it caused a lot of confusion with both having the same name.
