In fact I used to (still do) attend every day and they decided that as long as I was there every day they would give me some assignments. So..... now I am the sacristan and reader during the week at the 5:45 pm masses. On rare ocassions Father Stelzer will call on me to read on the weekend if the regular readers are among the missing. It feels good to belong there. There are a lot of nice people there. Fran Seddon

Sisters of Notre Dame (founder = Sr. Julie (many years ago)). There are 3 nuns still actively teaching there. The rest of the teachers are lay (?) teachers. The grades run up to the 8th now. My mother in law, who graduated from there in the early 30s finished all 12 years right there. In the back hall of the church behind the altars there are old pictures of graduating classes and faculty hanging on the walls. On rare ocassions a picture will be replaced with a new one. I don't know if there is an archive of old pictures on the church property or not. Are you in the vicinity? Can you get there to see the church and property? My daughter and I have taken pictures there and could email some of them to you if you want them. F. Seddon

    3. Can anyone on the list familiar with Oak Knoll Cemetery burial records look at this information below and give me input as to how to interpret this burial record? Julia S. Ward died 7/3/1865 age 17-9 Grave # 1 (1899 list # 708) Grave # 2 Julia A. Ward died 5/6/1890 age 82 Grave # 3 (1899 list # 707) Calvin Ward died 3/4/1890 age 86 Grave # 4 (1899 list # 706) Orilly Ward died 16/26/1849 age 51 Grave # 5 (1899 list # 705) Calvin, Julia S. and Julia are my family. Would Orilly have been related if she was buried in the same plot? Calvin is listed as the owner, but he died after Orilly. Is there a way to find out who owned the plot before Calvin? I am trying to establish Calvin's paternity and I think Orilly (daughter of Asa Ward) may be Calvin's relative. Urijah and Purdy Ward Asa and Dosia Orilly (buried in Oak Knowl) Calvin 1st (married Nabby Morse & moved to Illinois) Calvin 2nd (buried in Oak Knowl with his wife Julia A. and daughter Julia S.) Calvin 2nd was the illegitimate son of Calvin 1st and Sally Hitchcock. If Orilly and Calvin are related, it would be a link to this family, which would help me to establish paternity. Any input in interpreting this burial record would be appreciated. Thank you, Harry Calvin Ward

    1. Old cemetary in MA
    2. I am in need of some help. There are a number of former "state" hospitals in MA who also had their own cemetaries on their property. Anyways through my research as well as other members of my family we discovered that a few of our relatives who were in these state hospitals and died there and were also buried at these cemetaries. Of course over the years no one or no organization has taken or even care for the cemetaries and neglected them. Also, some have no markers just numbers and etc. Now I think last year or a few years before, I saw on the news that there was an organization started to begin cleaning up these cemetaries and etc. Does anyone have any idea what the name of this organization is and how to contact them? I saw this info on a few of the various News Channels in Boston...

Nancy, There is an obituary listed in the electronic archives of the Springfield newspapers. The obituary was written on September 28, 1992. The complete obituary would come with a small cost and is accessible to you at www.masslive.com You need to search the archives which actually go back to something like 1/1/1989. Ed O'Connor
