    3. Greetings! Just wanted to mention that I had the opportunity to meet a direct descendant of a West Springfield gravestone cutter I've been researching for the past six months, John Ely b. 1735 d. 1815. We met indirectly through the list and spent an afternoon *meeting* his family as he passed through on his way from New Mexico to New Hampshire. Thanks, Cyndy, for bringing us all together here! Here's a link on the book I recently published on the gravestones found here in town - gives you a little background on the research I'm doing: http://www.dogpondpress.net/images/Covers/AgaAdv.jpg I'm always eager to share info about burying grounds and stonecutters - let me know if I can help with your research. Surnames: Lewis, Bedell, Jarry, Kidder, Corkill, Corkhill Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/VFB.2ACI/4157 Message Board Post: Hello. I'd just like to post a brief query about my grandfather, Silas "Dean" LEWIS, who was living in the Windsor Locks, CT, area in the 1940's. He was living there with his second wife and her children, and he and his step-children had formed a local band, "The LEWIS Swing-Billies." Mrs. Hazel LEWIS died there around 1950. Around 1952 he remarried in or near Chicopee, MA, to Mrs. Yvonne JARRY. Dean and Yvonne LEWIS lived in Chicopee Falls until his death in 1961. FYI: "Dean" and his first wife, Clarissa KIDDER, were from the Winchester and Medford, MA, area. Dean's second wife, Mrs. Hazel BEDELL, was from the Malden, MA, area during her first marriage. Mrs. Yvonne JARRY had come down from Quebec Province, Canada, as a young woman. FYI: Silas Dean LEWIS was one of the youngest of 13 children born to "Stanley" and Mary (CORKILL) LEWIS. They were both "British Home Children," who came from England with their siblings. They were all sent to different homes in Nova Scotia in 1874. "Stanley" and Mary LEWIS migrated to Boston, MA, in 1881, and raised their children in nearby Stoneham, MA.

Surnames: Patience Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/VFB.2ACI/4156 Message Board Post: Hello. About 5-7 years ago, I found out about a book written by a Chelmsford, MA, man. He started out writing a family history book on his PATIENCE family, but it turned out to be a much larger story of many families who lived in the "Connecticut River Valley." I just retrieved this information from my local library's web site's "catalog" ... Say goodbye to the valley : three families joys and hardships along the Connecticut River / by Wes Patience ; editor, Guy A. McLain ; assistant editor, Margaret Humberston. More Copies by Patience, Wes. Springfield, MA : Connecticut Valley Historical Museum, c1994. Description: 506 p. : ill., ports. ; 24 cm. .... I borrowed the book from the Chelmsford Library when I found out about it (local TV), and found it to have tons of information but was not as organized as some professional books might be. I remember it included a story of an aunt or great-aunt who ended up living in a State Hospital in the Springfield area, mainly because she was un-married, and none of her relatives wanted her to live in "their" home. I also remember him mentioning a little history of Springfield, in general. So far, I only know it is available in a few, local Libraries, and at the "Connecticut Valley Historical Museum."

An interesting sidelight on Griffith Jones is that he had a daughter, Experience, who married John Huggins. John is a brother to Esther Huggins who is my ancestor.
