Hope this helps. Thank you very much for checking. This gives me some hope in the identification of http://www.movieposteremporium.com/famplus/images/anna/unk3.jpg My great great grandfather, Julius Charles Weiland (1823-1888) lived in Holyoke. I don't have any photo labeled with his name. This photo stood out in that most of the other photos in Annie's album had the Krumpholz "look". My great great grandmother Annie Krumpholz (1844-1917) had the album which contained a lot of picture of others who had her "look" along with photos of her children. I had hoped that the photographer would have been out of business by the time Julius died which would have meant the photo would have been possibly his and less likely someone else. There may still be some merit to your finding. If it was listed as Buchholz & Son, but the photo I have says Philip Buchholz, then it is quite possible the "& Son" did not exist at the time of the photo. Hence, being older than 1890, exactly what I am hoping. Are there directories for Springfield available for between 1880-1889? 3. Bill--perhaps an email to Mr. John O'Connor at the Ct Valley Historical Museum at the Springfield Quadrangle might help. He is very knowledgeable, is on staff at the Local History Room of the Springfield Public Library, he may have documents/books which can narrow down your search. The address there is:http://www.quadrangle.org/library-archive.htm. Good luck. P.S. I am sure there are lots of other directories there, the ones listed are the only ones I have access to! -- WOW! I don't suppose the name Philip Buckholz, a photographer in Springfield, rings a bell? He shot the picture at http://www.movieposteremporium.com/famplus/images/anna/unk3.jpg I am trying to identify the inclusive years that this photo could have been taken so I can narrow down who the subject is. This picture was in my great great grandmother's photo album along with about 30 other photos. My great great grandfather died in the late 1800s so there is nobody alive who can tell me if this was his picture. -- Bill Weiland A2Z Emporium Plus http://www.emporiumplus.com/store.mvc Modules for eCommerce. I don't have the name of the book at hand, but I know he has worked on an archive. I was researching in this area for my great great grandfather Calvin Ward, who had a photo studio in Springfield during this time period. Hope this helps.
