It should also be noted that it was common for Blacks to intermarry with Native people. It was also common for Native people to be listed with the Black or "Colored" people even if they were only Native. Because of the turmoil after King Philip's war, many Native people moved away from their home areas, so determine the tribe of the people involved, one needs to read about the interest of the area, both European and Native. May I suggest you contact the Catholic Diocese in Springfield. Their were several places that could be what you are looking for. The House of Good Shepard was a home for unwed mothers who gave their children up at birth for adoption and also Brightside, an orphanage, which is still in operation, was a home which children were adopted from!

She had a brother Alfred born Jan 20 1887 and a sister Annee born May 2 1889. Also there was a child "born dead" Dec 19 1886. ( I have a diary page written in french that was translated for me). Where would I write or call to get copies of birth certificates? Also thier mother Azilda passed away when the children were young, and at least Delia was placed in a convent for the nuns to raise by her father Alfred. Where might I be able to find the name of the convent and possilbly a death certificate or notice for Azilda ?

Please stop wasting e-mail space with the same message -- if you don't like something -- don't use it! I'm getting far too many messages from this individual with the same complaint and no relevant information on genealogical research! Thanks - my two cents worth - Dan
Greetings! I'm in the midst of transcribing the interesting bits in an old account book - West Springfield MA farmer Ruggles Kent II 1790s-1820s - and I keep running into farming and mechanical terms that are unfamiliar. In my search for an illustration of a fanning mill I found this webpage: http://www.princetonimaging.com/library/mechanical-dictionary/subjects/index.html All you need to see the pages of this HUGE resource is the free DjVu plugin - which took just a couple of minutes to download on my dial-up connection. The plugin operates much like Adobe Acrobat Reader - no fuss. Choose the instant install and you are on your way. The agriculture index is here: http://www.princetonimaging.com/library/mechanical-dictionary/subjects/idx_agriculturalandhusbandryimplements.html It's fun just to browse old entries like Curd-cutter, Sheep-dipping and Smut-machine. :) Enjoy, Rusty Gravestone Photo of the Day http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Gravestones Old Bones Tombstone Gallery... http://www.oldbones.net/cpg/index.php?cat=10014 West Springfield, Massachusetts ~Stories Carved In Stone~ http://www.dogpondpress.net/stone.html
Esther M. HASKELL was the daughter of my great-grandfather Henry Franklin WINCHELL. She was his second wife. They were married 30 Nov 1893 in Mittineague. In 1895 Henry married Alice Belle SNYDER in Great Barrington, Berkshire County. In those times it was more likely that Esther died sometime before Henry's third marriage, but I have found no death record for her in Berkshire County. Esther was born ca. 1862, the daughter of Damon N. HASKELL and Susan M. SEAVOR. She was living in West Springfield when she was married. I think either she and Henry moved to the West Springfield area or she was with her family when she died. How would I find out if they were living there in 1893 or 1894? Are the death records kept by the Town of West Springfield, assuming she died there? Thanks very much. Debbie Winchell
