Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/VFB.2ACI/4144.1 Message Board Post: Hello. One of the sad things I heard a few years ago was that the popular "Whalom Park" in Lunenberg, MA, had closed. The "family owners" just could not afford to keep it open any longer. If I were a rich man ..... I would have bought the property and restored it to it's 1950's-1960's popularity. Also, I've seen a PBS documentary on "old amusement parks" on TV several times. It mentions many of the ones across the USA which were popular in the mid-1900's. It is probably for sale wherever you buy PBS documentaries. And, I am from the Greater Boston area, and I remember the many visits to "Revere Beach" in the 1950's/1960's. (Very little reminders of that amusement park now.) FYI: I am trying to remember the original name of the amusement park which is now known as "Six Flags" in Agawam, MA.

    2. Holyoke had a park which i attended when i was a very young child, now 60, and can remember the merry go round which it now is in the center park locaated in holyoke. They called this mountain park. Riverside park and Forest park are still going strong. Good luck in your findings This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. 3. Elly, I didn't see that anyone else gave you the area code, so if you still need it, the AC for the four counties in what is known as "Western Massachusetts" is 413. The counties are Hampden, Hampshire, Franklin, and Berkshire. In addition to what are on the genealogy sites, I've found some sites with county maps and one that gives the names of each county and the cities and towns in each county: http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/maps/massachusetts_map.html http://www.mass.gov/mgis/ix_cnty.htm This site - http://www.sec.state.ma.us/ele/elecct/cctidx.htm - lists every county in Massachusetts and the cities and towns that are in each county. http://www.sec.state.ma.us/cis/cisctlist/ctlistidx.htm This site describes what records are available at the Massachusetts state archives offices: http://www.sec.state.ma.us/arc/arcgen/genidx.htm For a number of sites, you can also check http://www.cyndislist.com/ma.htm#Govt I hope that this helps. 3. Elly, in addition to what everyone else has said, you can get information from a state site for Massachusetts, which might be helpful if you don't know the town where someone died. 3. If you can get an obituary, it will usually tell you where the person is buried. Unfortunately I can't tell you what he newspapers are in that area other than the Holyoke Transcript and, when I lived in Westfield, it was the Springfield Union,.
