    3. First Generation 1. John L. TUCKER was born in Lancester, Worcester, Massachusetts. The Rich Men of Massachusetts, by A. Forbes and J. W. Green, Published by W. V. Spencer, 16 State Street, Boston, Mass., 1851. p. 156. Tucker, John L. Shelburne, Mass. $50,000 Native of Lancester. Left that town for Boston a poor boy. Entered the Tremont House a common porter, and supported his mother from his wages. Having served in that and several other higher capacities come fifteen years, he became chief proprietor of that well-known resort of the travelling public. Now a member of the firm of Lamsons, Goodnow & Co., at Shelburne Falls. No man knew better the wants of the travelling community, or supplied them greater ability and promptness. The Tremont House lost a favorite landlord when Mr. Tucker resigned his station there. His successor may do well, but everybody misses Mr. Tucker. A whole-souled, benevolent man. His friends are as numerous as his acquaintances, and when they read this sketch of him, our fears are that they will exclaim, "Not half so good as he deserves!"
