Israel Nims served as a Private in the revolutionary War. He enlisted in Capt. Jonas Locke's company of Minutemen that marched on the alarm at Lexington and Concord. He remained in service a for a month. Isreael reenlisted in July 1777 and served two months as part of Capt. Amasa Sheldon's company. He also was one of 31 men who voted against a petition to seek peace with Great Britain in 1781. Israel Nims died in New York while on a visit to his children there. upon his death, Israel Nims left one half of his land, his household furniture, one cow and six sheep to his wife, Bethia. He left twenty acres of land to his son, Barnard; $30 to Rebecca Parsons, his daughter; $! each to Israel, Harry and Seth, his sons, and the rest of the estate to his son, Justus.
