    3. Hi Deane, My Mastin grandparents, on my mother's side [she married a Maxwell], lived for many years in Skyland, NC. As a child, my mother and I would spend a couple of months each summer in Skyland at their old home which was formerly a hotel. My father would then drive up from FL to bring us home. My husband and I have made a couple of trips to Skyland trying to determine the place where the hotel once stood, after first talking to the Buncombe County folks who gave us all kinds of printouts. It was formerly a spa with a railroad on the property to transport guests to the hotel. We still have not found the exact spot but we are close. I have so many great memories of that area. My grandparents also had a home in downtown Hendersonville which once had wooden sidewalks. Saturday was a big day for the farmers to come to town and attend the nightly square dancing or clogging. Anyway, back to the Maxwell's. Thank you again for your interest in this line. They have got to be related. As a side note, when I looked at the film on the Congregational Church, Chesterfield, along with the children born to Ruth Maxwell, were children born to Esther Maxwell in the same time frame. They were Simeon Wyman b. 4/22/1792, Lilly b. 6/8/179?, Jeff?? Or Joseph?? B. 4/23/1794. Another film lists her married to Joshua Maxwell. I don't know if Hugh and Joshua are brothers or cousins. The fourth child of Hugh and Ruth was Erastus b. 1792. This is my line. Erastus was in the War of 1812 with New York troops. He married Susannah Whaley 12/13/1817 in Attica, Genesee [Wyoming] County, NY. Two of their sons were born in Albany, NY and I find the family next in Niagara County, NY. On three of the census years for Erastus, his birth place is listed as MA, NY or CT. So you see how happy I was to find a record of him in MA. Do you have a MA resource for the 1700's that might connect Hugh to a marriage first to Ruth Benton and second to Olive Newhall? Thank you for all the searching you have done on this line. You are very kind. There are MAXWELLs and BENTONs and NEWHALLs in Shelburne, Mass. Some of the Maxwells were born in Heath. Hugh F. Ward 1892-1966 may be a son of Frank A. Ward 1860-1935 and Ella L. Maxwell (b.Heath) 1863-1941 There is lots more information in Shelburne. This is what I found with just two hours of searching.
