Mrs. Field was a woman of great energy and versatility; we get but two glimpses of her life, the first when she is keeping school, making shirts for the Indians at 8 pence each, making breeches for Ensign Field, her husband's brother, at one shilling, sixpence per pair, besides managing her household with four young children; we next see her , ten years later, as Mrs. Azariah wright, with 8 children, the youngest but a year old, and leisure to work at tailoring, as formerly; leisure to spin and weave tow cloth, to be exchanged with the trades for crockery and a few luxuries; to spin and weave a web 26 yards of linen shee! ting for Samuel Smith, for which she receives 24 shillings. We have no account of his death, but he was alive in 1754. *By the Records of the Probate Court at Hartford, it appears that notice was sent to Edward Elmer, March 2, 1712, to take out letters of administration upon the estate of his daughter, Mary Elmer, and Dr. Daniel Hooker, of Weathersfield, was appointed administrator. An inventory of the Estate of Mary Elmer, deceased, late of Windsor, dau. of Edward Elmer, was filed Feb. 26, 1712-13, by Jas. Patterson and Moses Crofts Hezekiah ELMER and Miriam were married.
