    3. I am looking for information on Alfred Wood b. Feb. 14, 1814, Ashfield, Franklin Co., MA. Was Ashfield in Franklin Co., or was the county known by a different name? Alfred removed to North Adams in 1831 and worked in the mills there, before moving on to Illinois and then to Iowa. Alfred is my great grandfather, and I would like to learn more about him and the WOOD family. He also had a brother, Dexter who lived in Illinois. Julie

    3. Julie, According to Schweitzer "Massachusetts Genealogical Research", Franklin County was established in 1811 from Hampshire County. Ashfield was established in 1765 from land formerly known as the Plantation of Huntstown.
