    2. I have an Arcobat report that is about 113 pages with notes and sources I you have an interest in this file. The focus is on those descendants that resided in Franklin County, Mass. First Generation 1. Edward SPRAGUE signed a will on 16 Jun 1614 in Upway, Dorsetshire, England. He died about 1614 in Upway, Dorsetshire, England. Will was proved on 13 Oct 1614. He was born in , , England. The New England Historical and Genealogical Register, Volume LXIII, Published by the Society, Boston, April 1909. p. 147 We know that Ralph and William Sprague were the sons of Edward Sprague, fuller, and his wife Christain, of Upwey, county Dorset, England, as they are mentioned in his will, dated 16 Jun 1614. He had altogether six children, three of whom came to America. Edward Sprague of Upway (sometimes spelled Upwey) was a fuller by Trade. His Fulling Mill was standing until recently. He died in Upway in 1614 and it was he request that his body be buried in the village church year. His will was proved Oct. 13, 1614, in the Prerogative Court of Canterbury. It was discovered among the papers of Capt. William Sprague (Joseph, William, Edward, John, Ralph), of Leicester, Mass., who died in 1832 and was published in the second edition of Hosea Sprague's Genealogy of the Spragues in Hingham. His sons, William, Ralph and Richard removed to Salem, Mass. in 1628. Edward SPRAGUE and Christian were married. Edward SPRAGUE and Christian had the following children: +2 i. Lt. Christorpher SPRAGUE. Second Generation 2. Lt. Ralph SPRAGUE (Edward-1) was born in 1603 in Upway, Dorsetshire, England. He emigrated in 1628 from England to Salem, Massachusetts. He died in Nov 1650 in Malden, Middlesex, Massachusetts. The New England Historical and Genealogical Register, Volume LXIII, Published by the Society, Boston, April 1909, p. 147. Eldest son, born in Upwey, co. Dorset; came to Salem, Mass., in 1628, and from there went to Charlestown (later incorporated into Boston) in 1629. He married Joan Corbin, daughter of John of Fordington, co. Dorset, England. The three brothers, Ralph, Richard and William Sprague, came to Salem, Mass., in 1628 in the interests of the Massachusetts Bay Company paying their own transportation. Richard died without issue. Ralph and William became the heads of long lines of descendants in America. Soon after their arrival, they with three or four others were commissioned by Governor Endicott of Salem to explore the country about Mishawum. They undertook the journey, traveling about twelve miles to the west-ward through the woods on a neck of land between the Mystic and Charles River. This was the country of the Albergenians an Indian tribe with whom they made peace. Thomas Walford, a smith, was already living there. It is presumed that the Spragues wintered there in tents. In the spring of 1629, came Mr. Graves, the Company's engineer and Mr. Bright, the minister and others. Mr. Graves laid out the town and the building of houses was commenced. They named the town Charlestown. Hon. Edward Everett in his oration commemorative of the Bicentennial of the arrival of Winthrop at Charlestown, in speaking of the Spragues said, "They are the founders of the settlement in this place" and "were persons of character, substance and enterprise; excellent citizens; generous public benefactors; and the heads of a very large and respectable family of descendants." Hosea Sprague wrote in 1833, "The Tombstones of Lieutenant Ralph and Captain Richard Sprague, the first settlers of Charlestown, remain to this day; the inscription however is almost obliterated by the dropping of water. The Genealogy of Ralph Sprague and his descendants has been compiled by Dr. E. G. Sprague of Barre, Vt. Lt. Ralph SPRAGUE and Joanna WARREN were married on 15 Aug 1623 in Fordington, Dorset, England. Makes his Will, and gives to Harvard College 400 pounds, and thirty-one ewes and thirty lambs; to his brother William of Hingham his sword; to his nephew Richard, son of Ralph, his wharf and warehouse with other property; mentions wife Mary. His estate was valued at 2,357 pounds, 16 shillings, 8 pence. He died on 25 Nov 1668 in Charlestown, Suffolk, Massachusetts. Hon. He emigrated in 1628 from England to Salem, Massachusetts. He died on 26 Oct 1675 in Hingham, Plymouth, Massachusetts. He signed a will on 29 Oct 1675 in Hingham, Plymouth, Massachusetts. Anthony EAMES and Margery) died on 8 Feb 1695/96 in Hingham, Plymouth, Massachusetts. William SPRAGUE and Melicent EAMES had the following children: +15 i.
