While researching my great grandparents I found that there are two marriage licenses. Both issued and signed by the county clerk, both signed by a minister, and both re-filed with the county clerk. The first license issued is dated 11 Jul 1867 countersigned 13 Jul 1867 and states that the ceremony took place 13 Jul 1867 in Peru, IL. The second is issued on 3 Jan 1867 (the 7 is most likely an error). The minister states he joined them in marriage on 05 Jan 1868 and completed the form on 06 Jan 1868. There is a smudge behind the 05 Jan 1868 date as though there were an erasure. However, this license has what appears to be a 5 ¢ stamp with Washington's image. For a while this mystery had no answer, then I returned to Lucile Chapman's MS and saw a very faint note, "Double wedding" with a line connecting Lucy Gunn's marriage and Elizabeth Sarah Gunn's marriages.
