Samuel Ross, born 1762, moved from Templeton to Coleraine, Mass., 1782 and resided there until his death in 1808. He settled in the North River Valley in the locality known as Elm Grove - all the land in that section was at one time in his possession. He built one of the handsomest houses in Franklin County. That house, now possessed by the Brigham family, still retains much of the beautiful carving and finish, such as was significant of the old houses built at the close of the Eighteenth Centur. It greatly resembles the houses of old Bennington, Vermont but has been decidedly injured by being modernized. Dr.Samuel Ross married Jean McCrillis Decmeber 29, 1873. Second Generation 2. Dr. Samuel ROSS was born on 16 Jan 1738/39 in Lancester, Worcester, Massachusetts. He died on 15 Nov 1815 in Deerfield, Franklin, Massachusetts. Oliver Wilder's Company from Lancaster, and was in Capt. Benjamin Ballard's Company in an expedition to Crown Point April 22, to October 9, 1756. Samuel Ross was married at Lancaster by Rev. John Mellen, November 27, 1760 to Katherin Gerry or Gray. Soon after their marriage they settled in Templeton, where their children were born. Before 1790 he moved to Deerfield where he died. Born in Lancaster or Sudbury about 1704. He married Mary Dudly, born May 1711 and died November 29, 1765. She was the daughter of Samurl and Abigail Dudley of Littleton, Massachusetts. "Mary Ross wife of Thomas Ross was dismissed from the Church in Littleton, Massachusetts, to join the Church in Sudbury, Massachusetts, August 6, 1732." Their second son was Samuel Ross born in Lancaster, January 16, 1738-39. Thomas ROSS and Mary DUDLEY were married. 5. Mary DUDLEY was born in May 1711. She died on 29 Nov 1765. He lived in Stoneham until after the births of his children, then moved to that part of Lancaster set off 1780 as Sterling. He died in Sterling 1788. Catherine (Katy) GERRY. Fourth Generation 8. Thomas ROSS was born on 29 Sep 1660 in Sudbury, Middlesex, Massachusetts. He died in 1718 in Lancaster, Worcester, Massachusetts. Thomas Ross was in the Company from Sudbury that participated in the Canada Expedition in 1690. He was also in Queen Anne's War; his house having been burnt by the Indians during their attach on Lancaster in 1704. He bought the John How lot in Lancaster 1699 for a homestead and lived there several years, though after the Indian raids of 1704 he lived more or less of the time in Sudbury, in which town the four youngest of his children were born. Shortly before his death, which occurred in 1718, he returned to Lancaster to live. He was one of ninety-nine Lancaster men who bought of the Indians' that territory out of which Sterling was later formed. His wife was Anna. Thomas ROSS and Anna were married.
