    1. a fire in Deerfield after 1883?
    2. Hi, For years my grandmother, who was born in South Deerfield, claimed that her birth records had been lost in a fire, but others told me that the records did all exist in Deerfield. This week I had the chance to go to Town Hall and look through the birth records, and found that she must have been correct. I found record of her siblings, all born before her, and there were some entries listed for the year 1883, but she wasn't among them. I did check all the way up to the 1890s to see if she was listed anywhere else, but didn't find her. I did find a record of her marriage to my grandfather in 1912, her age at the time of her marriage confirms that she was born in 1883. Can anyone tell me about this fire, when it might have been, etc. My grandfather was listed as a Hotel Clerk at the time of the marriage, is there a way to check if it was the Deerfield Inn or perhaps the Hotel Warren? Can anyone recommend a book that has a nice history of Deerfield in the 1800s? My grandmother's parents arrived from Ireland sometime in the 1840s (I believe) so I'm most interested in the town from that point on.
