REED was born. Third Generation 4. Jesse REED was born. Jesse REED and Ruth were married.4 5. Ruth was born. Jesse REED and Ruth had the following children: i. Ruth REED was born on 29 Mar 1785 in Charlemont, Franklin, Massachusetts.1 2 ii. Alonzo REED. iii. Jesse REED was born about 1790 in Charlemont, Franklin, Massachusetts. He was baptized in 1790 in First Congregational Church, Charlemont, Franklin, Massachusetts.5 iv. He settled in Charlemont, and from there removed to Ovid, N.Y. where he died. All his children have been dead some years. Darius EDGERTON and Mary (Polly) BECKWITH were married.8,9 7. Mary (Polly) BECKWITH was born in 1767 in , Norwich, Connecticut.10,11 She died on 28 Mar 1823 in Charlemont, Franklin, Massachusetts.12 She was buried in Village Cemetery, Charlemont, Franklin, Massachusetts.13 Darius EDGERTON and Mary (Polly) BECKWITH had the following children: i. Maria EDGERTON was born on 12 Sep 1808 in Charlemont, Franklin, Massachusetts.3 Fourth Generation 12. Joseph EDGERTON was born in 1738.14 Youngest son. Came with his family of six children to Hawley, Mass., in 1775, being literally one of the fathers of the town. One of the five original families to settle in this neighborhood (Bozrah, Mass.), which is in the north part of the town, a mile and a half south of Charlemont village, was settled in 1775, by five families from Bozrah, Ct., a small town which was formerly a part of Norwich, Ct. Settled on the farm recently occupied by the late Erastus Brayman. The heads of four of these families were Zebedee Wood, Jospeh Edgerton, Zephaniah Lathrop and Gershom West. The name of the fifth family is not known to the writer (George D. Crittenden, of Shelbune Falls). Joseph EDGERTON and Lucy LYON were married on 4 Feb 1762 in Norwich, New London, Connecticut.17,18 13. Lucy LYON was born on 29 Nov 1731 in Norwich, New London, Connecticut.19 She died on 28 May 1823 in Hawley, Franklin, Massachusetts.7 She was buried in Bozrah Cemetery, Bozrah, Franklin, Massachusetts.16 Joseph EDGERTON and Lucy LYON had the following children: 6 i. Having no children and settled on the place now owned by Charles Crittenden, when the land was in a wilderness state. He removed to Brecksville, Ohio, in 1831. The farm in Hawley was sold to Simeon Crittenden Jr. in 1834. The house on the farm was built in 1807. He had an adopted daughter, Lorina Skiff, who married John Milton Leonard. iii. Joseph EDGERTON died in 1842 in Brecksville, Cuyahoga, Ohio.7 History of the Town of Hawley, Mass., by William Giles Atkins, Published by the Author, West Cummington, Mass., 1887. p. 101. He removed with his family to Brecksville, Ohio, in 1815, being one of the first settlers of that town, then a wilderness. The last of their children died in 1886. All but two died in Breckville, one in Missouri and one in Wisconsin. They were all farmers. iv. Ezekiel succeeded his father on the homestead, and besides being a farmer, he was a master mechanic. There were but few houses, churches or mills built in that vicinity for many years that were not under his supervision. Was the only one of his name and generation whose life was spent and family reared in Hawley. He was a farmer and mechanic, and besides being a carpenter and builder he had a shop in which he made various kinds of cabinet work, wagons and sleighs. He was a very well educated man of his day. v.
