If anyone is researching this line, I have identified Gertrude Brooks, wife of Byron Newcomb Miner. The Newcomb book says she is the daughter of John Brooks of Deerfield. She is not. Byron Newcomb Miner b. 12/23/1863, Leyden, Franklin, MA (*1) , son of James Rathbone Miner and Mary Elizabeth Newcomb, married Gertrude A. Brooks (on 10/20/1891?). Gertrude was b. 12/18/1871, Leyden (*1), dau. of Jonathan M. Brooks b. 3/10/1827, Colrain (*2), and Mary Adeline Carpenter, b. 1/31/1834 (*1), Leyden. I suspected this Gertrude was the sister of my GG GF Duane Brooks, but was never able to prove it. A brain storm last night made me realize she may have been around long enough to have an SS#, sure enough SS Death Index shows: Gertrude A. Miner, last res. S. Deerfield, MA, b. 12/18/1871 (same date as shown on LDS film of Leyden Vital Records as born to Jonathan and Mary Brooks), d. 2/15/1966. Sometimes, we just forget to check the obvious, and easiest, sources...
