Greetings! I've photographed the Hawks Cemetery on Route 2 a couple times this year and am having the devil of a time trying to decipher some of the schist stones. Both days the sun was behind the stones and they are difficult to read. Would anyone know if there was a SHIFF family there? Possibly Sandar? d 1815 and a Sally d. 1819? These aren't my kin - I'm just trying to get a list together for this interesting little cemetery located in a recreational pull off on the Mohawk Trail. There are a number of Hawks - also Comstock, Flagg, Johnson, Phipps, Sawyer and Turner - but less than fifty stones all together, I'd guess. A number of the stones mark veterans.
