I wrote this this morning for Joel and decided that it needed to be posted to the general list. I appreciate the help that you are giving. I hope to help others one of these days. I first found Erastus and Polly SCOTT in Chautauqua County, New York. They said they were born in Massachusetts. I found Erastus SCOTT born in Whately, although many books written on the family say he was born in Sunderland. I think the family may have lived there at some time. Erastus was born to James SCOTT and Sarah DWIGHT (haven't proved the Dwight but that's the only name given in books I've looked at) in 1775. His twin brothers, Consider SCOTT and James SCOTT, were born the next year in 1776 and James SCOTT, the father, died in 1777. I have no idea what happened to Sarah SCOTT. She's not listed in the 1790 census. I don't know if she died or if she re-married. Erastus SCOTT bought land 7 August 1811, in what was later Hanover, Chautauqua County, New York. He was one of the first settlers and is mentioned in most of the Chautauqua County histories. Relevant to Franklin County, Massachusetts, Erastus SCOTT sold part of his 500 acres to Isaac SMITH, who must have been a childhood friend. Isaac was born in Whately also. He moved to a more easternly New York County first, it appears and then to Hanover. "He was in the war of 1812 at Buffalo, contracted fever in the service and died." Erastus was his admistrator to his estate. According to Tree Talks Vol 37, No2, June 1997 from the letter of Administration, Vol 0 1/2, office of the Surrogate, Chautauqua County Courthouse, Mayville, NY, Isaac SMITH died intestate. Erastus SCOTT appointed Administrator 11 Apr. 1814. P. 12. Several of their children married one another. Isaac SMITH's father was Benjamin SMITH and his mother was Elizabeth according to the IGI at familysearch.org . That's also where I found a list of Isaac SMITH and Roxa[nne] MORTON's children: Henry SMITH b. 21 Oct 1793, Benjamin SMITH b. 2 Aug 1794, Matilda SMITH, b. 20 Nov 1796 and Roxa[nne] SMITH b. 25 Oct 1801were all born at Whately, Massachusetts. This smae source lists Rodney Barnes SMITH was born in 1798 at Smith Mills, Chatagua [sic] New York. I'm pretty sure that where he died not was born. Just for the record they had The next three were born at Gasham, Ontario, New York: Tirza SMITH about 1804, Hiram SMITH abt. 1805, Artley or Attley SMITH abt 1807, and Ether SMITH 18 May 1811 at Portalnd, New York. I found the family in the Whately reords who were born there but not proved the others yet. I also asked Joel to search the Corbin Collection for me, as that has been suggested to me in the past. Thanks again. Happy Hunting, Glenda
