You are absolutely correct. I get concerned about putting too much information into messages and I can certainly see that I left out too much in this one. I found an Erastus Scott in several Scott genealogies on-line that seem to be based on: Allen, Orrin Peer's, Descendants of William Scott, of Hatfield, Mass., 1668-1906, and of John Scott of Springfield, Mass., 1659-1906. I'll try to find a copy of the Mary Lovering Holman John Scott genealogy you mentioned. I have checked all the federal censuses from 1890 to 1860. I can find an E. Scott in Charlemont in 1810. There are two men of the age of Consent (a brother of Erastus according to Allen's Scott genealogy book) in Charlemont in 1800 in his household. One could have been Erastus, or James, Consent's twin brother or someone else. I have looked at the town records for Chartlemont and find the marriage and all the children of Consent Scott listed but none for Erastus. I have also searched the records for Deerfield, Sunderland and Hatfield in Franklin county without success. Erastus Scott and Isaac Smith (from Whately, Massachusetts) purchased property together from the Holland Land Company in Chautauqua County in 1811 and they seem to have been there after that. My next thought was to check all the towns along the rivers between Whately and Charlemont I haven't checked but I was thinking that some of you might know migration patterns in the area and have some suggestions. I will continue to search records of the area.
