RE: VRs. I'm not sure if the Ashfield VRs were one of the set of Massachusetts VRS that were puiblished or not, I just don't recall. If they were, they would have covered from Ashfield's inception to 1850 or thereabouts. So, that's the first thing to check out. RE: Newspaper account. The de facto county newspaper has always been, since 1792, the paper published in Greenfield which has gone by various names for over 200 years. Local VRs were listed in the paper so 1841 vital events would have definitely been listed. Whether parent's names were include is hit or miss. It would pay to check out any possible newspaper account, if for nothing else than to know it was a source that was considered. RE: County Records. Probate and land records, which mght yield some informaiton are held at the county level, in this case at the Franklin County Courthouse in Greenfield. Again. something worth checking. RE: Ashfield Records. The Ashfield Historical Society is very active and they have various family records. Probably worth a letter to them to see what, if anything, they may have. I hope this is helpful. Good Luck, Garry
