    1. [MAFRANKL] Clark's of Colrain
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/4EB.2ACE/1066 Message Board Post: I'm looking for additional source information for the descendants of John O Clark of Colrain. I already have the information from the 'History of Colrain' pub. 1855. I believe that my line of Clark's may be descendants, but I've not been able to find out enough information to determine exactly how my Clark's fit. Through two biographies for family members and census information I've managed to track my Clark's back to Salathiel Clark, b. 1780-1790 probably in New York (although this is not confirmed). A biography of Salathiel's son, Alvah B. Clark, of Hamilton Co., IA states that the Clark family was of Irish descent. It also says that Salathiel's wife, Mary Smith, was of Scottish descent. Salathiel served during the War of 1812 during the Battle of Plattsburgh in a militia organized by John Stewart who I believe is the John Stewart who was living in Kingsbury, Washington Co., NY in 1810. Stewart's near neighbors appear to be the families of Diadama Clark and Luther Clark. Also contained in Alvah B. Clark's biography is a short description of his forebears that unfortunately doesn't assign names, but the gist of it says that at least several family members were killed by the French and Indians and at least one grandfather served during the Revolutionary War. >From the 'History of Colrain', I know that Matthew Clark was killed by hands of Indians and that his son George's was killed at Fort Pitt during the French and Indian War. Also, I know that the Clark's intermarried with the Stewart's and Smith's (who were originally from Scotland). Unfortunately, there is not enough information in the published material that I've been able to track down that provides data on all of the male descendants of John O Clark. I've been able to find little snippets of information that indicate that descendants of the Clark, Smith and Stewart families of Colrain lived for at least short periods in Washington Co., NY, but most of this information doesn't contain sources to check for accuracy. I just don't have enough to go on and am hoping someone who reads this message board will be able to help. Sue
