Many of my Wright ancestors came from the Montague, MA area and I have copies of several land ownership records. I am considering using a software package titled "Deed Mapper" offered by Direct Line Software. Has anyone had any experience with this program?

It is basically on the eastern side of Greenfield, next to Turners Falls and on the Deerfield border. I have heard that section of Greenfield called Cheapside, but haven't heard Deerfield called that. I assume the area near the bridge is what you refer to however. Barbara Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Cheapside was a section of Deerfield for many years and it still exists but as a part of Greenfield. It was long a controversial section in the boundary between Deerfield and Greenfield, the shire town that separated from the mother town of Deerfield on 9 June 1753. Even afterwards it was many years before Cheapside was annexed to Greenfield on 2 May 1896. It is just north of the Deerfield boundary on the Greenfield side of the Green River. More information is available in a town history of Greenfield, The Conservative Rebel by Paul Jenkins (1982). Hi Bonnie, I have the following on Randall Miner: Randall Miner, son of Christopher & Mary (Randall) Miner, was born in Stonington, New London, Connecticut 2 Mar 1786, and died in Leyden, Franklin, Massachusetts about 1861. He married about 1820 Hannah Baker, daughter of Benjamin & Hannah (Tucker) Baker, born Leyden, 10 Feb 1793, died Leyden, 25 Nov 1857. Randall is not seen in the 1820 census but was probably well on his way to Leyden, where in 1830 he appears to have had 2 young sons and 3 younger daughters. He was a farmer there. Hannah's parents were originally from South Kingston, Washington, Rhode Island and had participated in the out-migration from Rhode Island by 1790 when they are seen in Leyden. Baker descendents are in Leyden to this day. To date I have followed descent through their son Jerrah C, born abt 1834. Let me know if you are interested in any of that. If anyone is researching this line, I have identified Gertrude Brooks, wife of Byron Newcomb Miner. The Newcomb book says she is the daughter of John Brooks of Deerfield. She is not. Byron Newcomb Miner b. 12/23/1863, Leyden, Franklin, MA (*1) , son of James Rathbone Miner and Mary Elizabeth Newcomb, married Gertrude A. Brooks (on 10/20/1891?). Gertrude was b. 12/18/1871, Leyden (*1), dau. of Jonathan M. Brooks b. 3/10/1827, Colrain (*2), and Mary Adeline Carpenter, b. 1/31/1834 (*1), Leyden. I suspected this Gertrude was the sister of my GG GF Duane Brooks, but was never able to prove it. A brain storm last night made me realize she may have been around long enough to have an SS#, sure enough SS Death Index shows: Gertrude A. Miner, last res. S. Deerfield, MA, b. 12/18/1871 (same date as shown on LDS film of Leyden Vital Records as born to Jonathan and Mary Brooks), d. 2/15/1966.
