Yes, Thanks for the reply. He was married to Eunice Newton, married her in 1768. Their son Benjamin Watts was born in Warwick 11/30/1769. He is said to have died, in one account (Abstract of Rev Graves), in Shoreham, Vermont where his daughter Mary lived. However, I have searched there with local volunteer help and came up empty regarding a grave. Turns out his daughter Mary has a recorded grave in Shoreham but not him when the person checked the records. She also noted he was not on any rolls as having lived there. Another account has him buried in Warwick (familysearch.org) This is why I thought that would be correct since he apparently had lived in Warwick for some time. Hopefully someone else will have something? My wife's Eagan family,( the name is also spelled Egan)includes Garrett Eagan and Honora Nally. Garrett's father is also Garrett and the elder Garrett was married to Margaret McNamara. As near as I can tell, the younger Garrett's siblings were Hanora( various spellings), John, James, Jerome and Mary. There may also have been a Michael Eagan. My gg-grandmother Hannorah Madigan and Michael O'Connor, her first husband were married there. He died and she later married John Clark, father of my g-grandfather, Jim Clark. Cheapside is now a part of Greenfield. If you study the old maps and renderings of Cheapside and then visit, you can visualize what the village was like. The footprint of the place is basically the same and many of the old structures are still standing. By the way, I also have Eagans in my line. I wonder if we are connected? Thanks for your current response as I continue to piece together the Egan/Eagan family saga here in Massachusetts. Your knowledge of the history of the Greenfield area is very helpful. I hope the following info is helpful. "Cheapside" was originally an area of Deerfield that focused on the confluence of the Green & Deerfield Rivers where the "Cheapside Bridge" is now (the Green flows into the Deerfield which in turn flows into the Connecticut) and extended north up Deerfield Street (Route 5) to a bit beyond Meridian Street (where there is currently a stop light, the only one on Deerfield Street), where a bridge (originally wooden) goes over the Green River and where the old Russell Cutlery mill was and where the old Greenfield Tap and Die plant was as well (a new assisted living facility is almost complete there as of this date, April 29, 2007). Greenfield, which became independent from Deerfield in June 1753, long coveted this area. I believe it was in 1896 that the "Cheapside" section of Deerfield was finally annexed to Greenfield. More specific information should be available in various volumes of Greenfield and/or Deerfield history. Good Luck, Garry Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
