    1. [MAFRANKL] Bloody Brook
    2. Richard Clarke
    3. William Anderson settled in Bloody Brook. I found the cemetery where Joanne Clark Anderson and her daughter Elisa are burried along with Solomon Amderson and his wife. My question is, what are the boundaries of Bloody Brook? Just where in Deerfield today, would be considered Bloody Brook? I'm still looking for William Anderson.

    3. I get copies of all I send to my lists and I just got back a notice I sent to all of my genealogy related email lists and for whatever reason it said that the message was in MIME form and most of it came out goobly gop. I was trying to send a picture in the body of the email instead of an attachment of a Civil War Marker that I got through VA. I wanted it to inspire everybody who has thought of doing the same thing. Does anybody know if it is possible to send a pic to our lists and if so how. I bet it is not allowed. Also in the body of my letter I made a serious error. I put down that my ancestor was killed at Port Huron, La.--I meant to type Port Hudson, La. on May 25, 1863. I know all the Civil War Buffs are offended--sorry about that. That having been said--I will cut and paste from the original email I sent a while ago. I wish I could send the pic of the Civil War Marker but you get my meaning anyway. Renne Harrington Blocker Cut and Paste: Great News Everybody!!I wrote all of my Civil War and genealogy related email lists in the spring and asked for suggestions and help as to how I would go about getting a Civil War Marker for my ancestor who died during the Battle of Port Hudson, La. on May 25, 1863. The response and encouragement from all of you was overwhelming. I downloaded the forms from VA's website, filled them out and sent in 13 pgs. of documentation. The VA website says that usually they will NOT provide a Civil War marker unless you can prove absolutely that the deceased has no other marker or grave anywhere. I provided them with my ancestor's muster-in papers, letters from Port Hudson and other pertinent paperwork which satisfied them that indeed my ancestor DID NOT have an existing grave or marker anywhere else. I asked that this Civil War Marker be erected next to his mother in Lee Ma. I completed all the paperwork on June 20,2003. I waited for about 6 wks. and never heard anything about my app being approved or turned down. Low and behold I heard from a wonderful gentleman that work had been done on my family plot last Wed. He took this picture of my ancestor's marker!! It was approved, made, shipped, installed all within a 6 wk. period of time. Take heart everybody and if this has been of a dream of yours(getting a VA marker) don't give up. Thank you everyone for making my family's dream come true. A lot of you asked that I keep the list updated as to what happened when I applied. God Bless, Renne Harrington Blocker

By at least June of 1814, Josiah, aged 41, joined the Mass Militia raised in Boston, In S! > ept. of 1814, he was stationed at Rochester, NY., under Gen. Goodwin's command. Also 1n 1814, he wa Grantor on a property transaction in Buckland. Between 1814 and 1817 Josiah relocated to Clarkson, then Genessee Co., NY just outside of Rochester. This could be becase of a Land Grant or Bounty from the War of 1812. We know josiah was in Clarkson by or before, because Richmond, eldest by Phebe, was born there in 1817. The 1820 Census shows Josiah, Phebe and children Josiah Jr., Nancy, Christopher Bliss, Chauncy (b.1812 to Hannah), living in Clarkson, NY. What happened to the 4 children born 1794-1800, they would have been 20-26 yrs.old in 1820? Did some or all stay in Ma., or did they move to NY, and leave the home before the 1820 Census? The 1830 Census for Clarkson shows Josiah, now 57, Phebe now 46, Chauncy 18, Richmond 13, ___? female 5-10, and William 2. After 1830 I have absolutely "0" info on Josiah and Phebe nor the first four children by Hannah. Anyone out there that! > may have anything on this family, your help would be greatly appreciated. 1. [MAFRANKL] Researcher with connections to Rowe, Mass.
    2. My focus for now will be to computerize the genealogy information from the book: "The History of Rowe, Massachusetts, by Percy Whiting Brown, 2d edition, Privately Published, 1935, Cleveland, Ohio, Printed by A. D. Williams Company, 114 pages." I copied this book at the Denver Public Library, while in Denver in June. My database has grown to a little over 191,000 individual names, mostly for the descendants of early settlers to Hartford, Conn (that married into the Webster, Treat, Marsh, Martin families and others) and early settlers of Franklin County, Mass. The Webster & Marsh families were early settlers of Hadley, Mass. and ended up marrying into many of the early families that settled in Hampshire, Berkshire and Franklin counties. I have limited information on the settlers of Rowe, Mass. If any of the readers on the list would be interested in sharing their family genealogy for their families that resided in Rowe, I will merge it into the database and share the information developed and linked. My area of interest remains the settlers prior to 1850, however, I will frequently carry family lines up to and into the early 1900's in order to link extended family genealogies. I have updated my list of old published genealogies, town history & vital records, and cemetery record computerized and if you'd like a copy, send me a e-mail. Again, the focus here is Franklin County, Mass. Please contact me directly @ Paul W. Allred - [email protected]

    2. The History of Rowe, Massachusetts, by Percy Whiting Brown, 2d edition, Privately Published, 1935, Cleveland, Ohio, Printed by A. D. Williams Company. p. 11. Apparently John Stoddard had bargained with Moses Rice for the erection of some sort of a fort on the hill tops of Rowe. Moses Rice had come from Rutland to be the first settler in Charlemont.* He built his first cabin in the spring of 1743 near a buttonwood tree that is still standing a few rods from the Charlemont bridge. In June 1755, twelve years later, Captain Rice was killed and scalped by Indians and his remains buried nearby. The grave is marked by a small monument which was dedicated in 1871. * The first mention of Charlemont is in a deed from Phineas Stevens to Othniel Taylor dated Nov. 3, 1742, in which it is called "Checkley's Town, otherwise called Charlemont.

    2. I got this email from one of my lists the yesterday. Aol has a new spam blocking tool where you highlight unwanted mail, then click on a "block" button. it then sends a report to Aol, and blocks any email from that address. Aol has sued several people as well as filed criminal charges. Sound great right??? Apparently, it has it's flaws. People have been blocking mail from the rootsweb discussion lists, instead of unsubscribing when they are no longer interested. Here's the email I received: Several days ago AOL began blocking all emails sent by USGenNet's server. : This means that list subscribers who have AOL addresses can't receive the : list posts.  Also, USGenNet account holders with AOL addresses can't use : their email aliases to forward their site's mail to their AOL address. This : holds true for all domains hosted by USGenNet, including ALHN and AHGP main : sites, USGenWeb Census Project, Combs Families, and TNGenWeb just to name a : few. : All mail originating from our server to any AOL address bounces back with : this message: : : "The information presently available to AOL indicates this server is : generating high volumes of member complaints from AOL's member base. Based : on AOL's Unsolicited Bulk E-mail policy at : http://www.aol.com/info/bulkemail.html AOL : may not accept further e-mail transactions from this server or domain. I called AOL Saturday and they specified what they felt warranted their : block, and I passed the information on to Jim Cole, our SysAdmin.  Jim has : tested, and re-tested, but can't find anything to their claims. Our server : is not open to indescriminate use or abuse and is very secure. : : Since I was told by AOL that the block will not ever be lifted unless : USGenNet corrects the "problems" they mentioned, it seems unlikely : that the block will be removed any time soon and those affected should act : accordingly. : : We are continuing our efforts to get the block removed, and will keep you : informed. : : Ginger Cisewski : President, USGenNet.Org : Melissa Foster-Rose "My Family Tree is Full of NUTS!!! www.angelfire.com/ky3/nuts FOR MORE INFO, SEE ABOVE WEBPAGE!!
