A very active man, full of business, and occasionally some of his irons would burn a little. He had an immense amount of land, employing from six to twelve men through the summer season and in the winter a large number of men making brooms. He raised large crops of broom corn, and in fact, of corn, wheat, rye and oats, and cut probably over two hundred tons of hay; had large herds of cattle and cows, fattening many head of cattle as well as hogs. He was a great worker, a very temperate man, conscientious and upright in his business relations, a strict observer of all religious rites, a power for good. When he started on any project he seemed to use every effort to make it a success, as when he signed the first temperance pledge in 1828 he at once cut down his large orchard. 3. The following family file for George Hibbard & Lydia Allen lists 15 of the 16 children listed in his obiturary. Can anyone on the list identify the missing 16th child? Sources are available upon request. Regards, Paul W. Allred [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> (no longer AOL) First Generation 1. George HIBBARD was born on 1 Jan 1746 in Windham, Windham, Connecticut. He died on 23 Jul 1823 in Hadley, Hampshire, Massachusetts. Genealogies of Hadley Families, Embracing the Early Settlers of the Towns of Hatfield, South Hadley, Amherst and Granby, Compiled Sylvester Judd, published in 1905. p. 68. Came to Hadley from Windham, Ct., about 1780. At the date of his death, he had 16 children, 109 grandchildren, and 51 great grandchildren. The History of the Town Whately, Mass. 1661 - 1899, by James M. Crafts, published by D.L. Crandall, Mann's Bloch, Orange, Mass. 1899. p. 625. of North Hadley, Mass. History of the Town of Whately, Mass., 1661 - 1899, by James M. Crafts, by D. L. Crandall, Mann's Block, Orange, Mass., 1899. p. 394. of North Hadley, Mass. Genealogy of the Hibbard Family who are the descendants of Robert Hibbard of Salem, Massachusetts, by Augustine George Hibbard, Woodstock, Connecticut, 1901. Resided at Windham until 1780, when he moved with his family to Hadley, MA where he became one of the principal settlers of North Hadley. His obituary from the Northampton Gazette reads: "Mr. George Hibbard, formerly of Windham, Conn., died at Hadley, Mass., July 23, 1823, aged 77. He had sixteen children, one hundred and nine grandchildren and fifty-one great-grandchildren. Fourteen of his children, twenty of his grandchildren, and one of his great-grandchildren are married and most of them have flourishing families. A few year since, Mr. Hibbard and wife made a public profession of religion in Hadley, together with seventeen of their children and children-in-law. He was the progenitor of great part of the neighborhood called Upper Mills, in Hadley, and during a long life has been to them, in a happy degree, and example of that 'wisdom that is from above is first oure, then peaceable, gentle and easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and wit! hout hypocrisy'." Only fifteen names of children can be found. The first eight born at Windham; the reminder at Hadley. The order of children in the Hibbard book is Olive, John, Lydia, George, Abigail, Lorinda, and Martha, all coming before those with birth dates. Also included is a disclaimer about the birth dates which, the author says, have great discrepancies from different sources. My early birth date entries were intended to put them in this approximate order. George HIBBARD and Lydia ALLEN were married. Lydia ALLEN died after 1810. Since there is no Deerfield River in CT and almost all of her children's records state she was born in MA I am assuming that she was born in Franklin County. Is that a correct assumption? She was born 17 Nov 1786. Any help or ideas in finding her origins would be most welcome. Anne Philiben

    1. [MAFRANKL] DINSMORE Genealogy - Conway, Mass
    2. I've located a pamphlet that was published in 1896 -- Title: Some Dinsmore Genealogy - Being some of the Descendants of Capt. Abel Dinsmore - One of the Earliest Settlers of Conway, Mass., Compiled by Charles C. Whitney, Printed Privately, New York, 1896. Preface. Most of the Dinsmore Genealogy contained in this pamphlet is the genealogy of the descendants of William Dinsmore and his wife, Submit (Belding) Dinsmore of Conway, Mass., and was obtained while compiling some Belding Genealogy. Some of those descendants, who had kindly assisted in the compilation, having expressed a desire to have a copy of their genealogy, it has been prefaced with such previous Dinsmore Genealogy as could be conveniently obtained, and a few copies of the are printed mainly to meet their wishes, and not for circulation. Chas. C. Whitney. New York, 1 August, 1896. I have merged this information in my database and have developed an Acrobat report which starts with John Dinsmore (b. 1671, Ireland) md. Hannah. They resided in Londonderry, N.H. and many of there descendants removed to Franklin County, Mass. Contact me off list if have an interest in obtaining a copy of this file. Regards, Paul W. 1. [MAFRANKL] COOK, Henry - Some Descendants of
    2. First Generation 1. Henry COOK. John Hall of Wallingford, Conn., A Monograph by James Shepard, Published by Record Press, New Britain, Conn., 1902. p. 44. of Salem, Mass. Henry COOK and Judith BIRDSALE were married. Henry COOK and Judith BIRDSALE had the following children: +2 i. Henry COOK (born on 30 Dec 1652). Second Generation 2. Henry COOK (Henry-1) was born on 30 Dec 1652. Inventory of estate was completed in Mar 1705 in , New Haven, Connecticut. John Hall of Wallingford, Conn., A Monograph by James Shepard, Published by Record Press, New Britain, Conn., 1902. p. 46. The inventory of the estate of Henry Cook, 657 pounds, 9 shillings, 7 pence., with the names and ages of his children, was filed third Tuesday in March, 1705, Adm. granted same day to Mary Cook, widow, and Henry Cook, son of the decd. (New Haven Country Court records, Vol. 2, 211.) He signed a will on 2 Mar 1718/19 in , New Haven, Connecticut. Henry COOK and Mary HALL were married on 30 Sep 1678 in Salem, Essex, Massachusetts. Mary HALL (daughter of John HALL and Jean (Jane) WOOLEN) was born about 1654 in New Haven, New Haven, Connecticut. She died on 31 May 1718 in Wallingford, New Haven, Connecticut. Will was probated on 9 Dec 1718 in , New Haven, Connecticut. John Hall of Wallingford, Conn., A Monograph by James Shepard, Published by Record Press, New Britain, Conn., 1902. p. 44. She was living at Wallingford with her father and mother when John Hall spoke to her and others his last will in 1676, and was married, probably, at Salem, Sept. 30, 1678. "Henry Cooke married to Mary Hale ye late of the 7th mo. 1678." (Salem records, from Collections Essex Institute, Vol. 2, 43.) Facts hereinafter given show that "Hale" in the fore going marriage record was intended for Hall. In olden time Hall was spelled "Halle," so that the omission of only a single letter renders the name Hale and we find this done in the Hartford land records before considered, where we know that "Hale" was meant for Hall. One Mary Cook, age 39, died Sept. 4, 1695 (Wallingford records), and as she is not accounted for, some have suggested that she was this Mary Hale, the first wife of Henry Cook, and that Mary Hall was his second wife. Henry, son of Henry and Mary, was born 12 years before the death of Mary Cook, so that he would not have been the son of a second Mary, but in the probate records of the estate of widow Mary Cook, 1718, he is called "her eldest son." This same son Henry quitclaims to his brother Isaac, his right in the "homestead which was our mother's Mary Cook's decd. of Wallingford" Aug. 16, 1720. (Wallingford land, Book 4, 188.) That the first, second, fifth, and eighth of his children were granddaughter of John Hall, and married respectively, Jeremiah How, Joseph Preston, Timothy Beach, and Adam Mott, is shown by the following: We, Jeremiah How ye 2d & Mary his wife, formerly Cook, both of Wallingford, to Daniel Hall, Jr., land that "comes to us on the right of our honored grandfather, Mr. John Hall the first of Wallingford & on the right of our honored father Henry Cook, late of Wallingford, decsd.", dated March 19, 1729. (Wallingford land, Book 6 , p. 95.) "Joseph Preston & Jane my wife of Wallingford" to Daniel Hall, Junior, land "which came by our ancestors as yet not layed out" dated Jan. 28, 1724. (Wallingford land, Book 4, p. 520.) Timothy Beach & Hannah Beach, both of Wallingford to our brother Isaac Cook of Wallingford, "all our right that we should or might have in or to the seventh division of land .... that shall or may accrue to us on our grandfather Hall's right & our father Henry Cook's right;" dated May 24, 1734. (Wallingford land, Book 7, p. 141.) Adam Mott & Elizabeth Mott, wife to Adam Mott of Wallingford, to Samuel Hall, "in right of my wife Elizabeth" land that "descends to us from our father Henry Cook of sd Wallingford & half an acre from our honored grandfather John Hall, Decd;" dated Oct. 19, 1724. (Wallingford land, Book 4, p. 454.) These facts prove that Mary Hall was Henry Cook's first and only wife. She named her first daughter "Mary" for herself, her second daughter "Jane" for her mother, her first son "Henry" for her husband, and her second son "John" for her father. Elizabeth, Jonathan, and David also appear to have been named for the Halls. Henry COOK and Mary HALL had the following children: +3 i. Mary COOK (born on 15 Jul 1678). +4 ii. Jane COOK (born about 1681). +5 iii. Henry COOK (born about 1683). +6 iv. John COOK (born about 1685). +7 v. Hannah COOK (born about 1690). +8 vi. Isaac COOK (born about 1692). 9 vii. Elizabeth COOK was born in Apr 1694. She died before 1696. +10 viii. Elizabeth COOK (born about 1696). 11 ix. Jonathan COOK was born about 1698. John Hall of Wallingford, Conn., A Monograph by James Shepard, Published by Record Press, New Britain, Conn., 1902. p. 46. His name appears in the list of children appended to the inventory of his father's estate 1705, but neither he nor his heirs are mentioned in the distribution of the said estate, Mar. 2, 1718/19. +12 x. David COOK (born about 1701). +13 xi. Jedidiah COOK (born about 1703). Third Generation 3. Mary COOK (Henry-2, Henry-1) was born on 15 Jul 1678 in Salem, Essex, Massachusetts. Mary COOK and Jeremiah HOW were married on 7 Jul 1708 in Wallingford, New Haven, Connecticut. John Hall of Wallingford, Conn., A Monograph by James Shepard, Published by Record Press, New Britain, Conn., 1902. p. 46. They removed to Brookfield, N.H., before March 4, 1722/3, but were living at Wallingford again March 19, 1729, at which time he is called "Jeremiah How ye 2d." 4. Jane COOK (Henry-2, Henry-1) was born about 1681. Jane COOK and Joseph PRESTON were married on 7 Jul 1708. Joseph PRESTON (son of Eliasaph PRESTON and Elizabeth BEACH) was born on 10 Mar 1681. 5. Temple and George Sheldon, published by Joel Munsell, 82 State St., Albany, N.Y., 1875. p. 485. of Wallingford, Ct. Removed about 1729 to that part of Waterbury which is now Plymouth, Conn., locating where the upper portion of the village of Thomaston is built. He is accredited as the firs settler of Plymouth, and was called "the soldier of the wilderness." "We have found him to be a man of courage, enterprise, and a spirit that withstood in justice, was one of the foremost promoters of the established church ... but the next year went over to the Church of England." His grandson Lemuel (son of his son Henry,) is believed the last survivor of the soldiers of the Revolutionary war and died May 20, 1866, aged 102. (New History Waterbury, Vol. 1, 315.) Henry COOK and Experience LYMAN were married. Experience LYMAN (daughter of Robert LYMAN and Hepzibah BASCOM) was born in 1679 in Northfield, Franklin, Massachusetts. She died on 8 Oct 1709. John Hall of Wallingford, Conn., A Monograph by James Shepard, Published by Record Press, New Britain, Conn., 1902. p. 46. Dau. of Robert Lyman, of Northfield, Mass. 1. [MAFRANKL] New Deerfield, Massachusetts Descendants Website!!
    2. Michael Abbate
    3. Historic Deerfield is pleased to announce the launch of www.deerfielddescendants.com this year, the 300th anniversary of the 1704 French and Indian raid on Deerfield. As you may know, we have been compiling information from hundreds of Deerfield Descendants across the country and Canada over the last two years. Based on what we have learned from those surveys, we are officially kicking off the Deerfield Descendant program at Historic Deerfield. To start, we are hosting 3 Deerfield Descendant Reunions this year to give you a chance to come to Deerfield and learn more about your family history and the events of 1704. This will also be a great opportunity to meet new friends and relatives, share information you have gathered and explore the town your ancestors lived in-maybe even tour the house they once lived in! The Deerfield Descendant website will be an ongoing project for us and we will continually add features that many of you have requested. We are planning on adding a chat room module so you can meet and exchange information with other descendants and we are actively digitizing documents and photos of our collections that will help you with your genealogical research. Here are the current website features: -Learn more and register for an upcoming Deerfield Descendant Reunion! Reunion dates are July 16-18, August 13-15, and September 3-5. -Become a member of the Friends of Historic Deerfield and make the most of your experiences at Deerfield! -Planning your visit information including directions to Deerfield, maps and local lodging options. -Complete our online survey and tell us more about your family connections to Deerfield. -Visit our mini-Museum Store and read about books that are of particular interest to descendants. Be sure to forward this email announcement to your relatives and other Deerfield Descendants. We hope to see you in Deerfield this year!! Michael Abbate Membership Coordinator Historic Deerfield P.O. 1. RE: [MAFRANKL] Mary FRENCH
    2. As I am unaware of your line of descent beyond Mary Smith I have included the two Smith marriages for the two Mary Frenchs'. This can be a very confusing family, Mary French, b 1624, dau of Thomas and Susan, married George Smith and her niece, Mary French, b 1634, dau of Thomas Jr(son of Thomas and Susan) and Mary (?) married Richard Smith. The information below may help, but I recommend you save it to your word processor or print it out as reading it in email might be even more confusing. ROBERT SMITH, first of Ipswich and later of Rowley Village, testified in a civil suit in 1659 when his age was stated to be thirty-three. From the depositions in a previous lawsuit in 1655, in which he gives evidence concerning a circumstance of his voyage to New England, it would appear probable that he came from the vicinity of Boston, Lincolnshire, and that he made the voyage to New England as an apprentice of a Mr. Whittingham in 1638. According to the estimate of his age he was born in 1626 and would have been about twelve years old at the time of his emigration.(*) An examination of the parish register of Boston discloses a Robert Smith baptized in 1626, but the burial records show that he died within a year. Experience in attempted identifications of English emigrants to America teaches that it is always unwise to leap at conclusions unsupported by very strong evidence, and this is particularly the case with a surname so common as Smith. The 1659 deposition states that Robert Smith was living with Mrs. Tuttle, Simon Tuttle's mother, in Ipswich "eight or nine years ago." In 1652 he and Edmund Bridges were witnesses in an Ipswich suit.(+) He married Mary French, daughter of Thomas and Mary French of Ipswich, before March, 1656/7, when they both testified in the action brought by Henry Kemball against Thomas Smith et al.?? Within a few years they moved to Rowley Village, then closely identified with Topsfield, and in 1673, when some of the inhabitants of the village attempted to throw its association toward Rowley, Robert Smith headed the petition to the General Court in opposition. The village eventually became the town of Boxford. Smith took the oath of allegiance in 1678. When Mr. Capen became the minister of Topsfield church in 1684, Robert Smith's wife was one of the members in full communion. Robert Smith made his will on August 7, 1693, and it was probated on September 26. His property was left to his wife, Mary, his sons Samuel, Ephraim and Jacob, and his daughters Mary Towne, Phebe Towne, "Emey" Towne and "Meriah" Smith. Administration cum testamento annexo was granted to Samuel on October 3, 1698, his sureties being his brother Ephraim and his uncle John French. The property administered at this time was appraised by John French and John Gould at œ189:7:3. From papers filed with the account of this administration it appears that Mary (French) Smith survived her husband twenty-six years, which would indicate that she died in 1719. A final division was made by Ephraim, Jacob and Samuel Smith in 1731, when it was stated that they had bought out the interests of their brothers and sisters.(*) Children, born in Rowley Village:-- 2. i. 3. Hey there Folks on the list and others: I believe that I am distantly related to Mary SMITH. Her mother is Mary FRENCH. I gleaned some information on her from the Ancestry File of the LDS family history centers. Her mother was apparently born 6 January 1624/1625 of Assington, Suffolk, England. If the ancestry file is correct her Christening was also about 6 January 1624 at Assington, Suffolk, England. I have her death as 1 February 1697 and burial could be about the same time at Deerfield, Franklin County, Massachusetts. I have her traced back through my paternal Second Great Grandmother bind the King and Allen marriage November 20, 1853 at Wren, Benton County, Oregon Territory. Any information that might be available on her would be appreciated to verify what I have.
