    1. SWAN Family Letters
    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" a group of family letter which all appear to belong to the SWAN Family of Shelburne Falls, Massachusetts. The first letter is written in 1891 addressed to Mr. Herbert W. SWAN of Shelburne Falls, MA from "Father" while he was in the hospital in Boston, MA. The second is from H.S. SWAN dated in 1895, addressed to Herbert O. SWAN in Longwood, Orange Co., Florida where they are likely on vacation. The final two letters are from William M. JOHNSON in Shelburne Falls, MA and are addressed to Herb SWAN at the Grand Union Hotel in New York City. The SWAN Family appears to have owned a business in Shelburne Falls as all the letters are addressed using company stationary and envelopes. I believe this is the family of Henry Solomon SWAN b. 1829 in Halifax, VT and Mary Sophia WILDER b. 1835 in Conway, MA who were married in Conway, MA on Sept. 9th 1852. I also find the family in the 1880 census, Henry S. SWAN age 51, born in VT, a Furniture Dealer living in Shelburne, MA along with his wife Sophia M. SWAN age 45, born in MA. The couple had 4 children living with them at that time, all born in MA including, Herbert W. age 23, Minnie age 21, Frank age 12, and Annie age 7. I believe that William M. JOHNSON was a grandson to Henry Solomon & Mary Sophia SWAN. I'm hoping to locate someone from this SWAN Family so that these wonderful old family letters can be returned to the care of family. If you are a member of this SWAN Family or know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

    3. I am looking for information on William Jones of Buckland, who married Phebe Brown (Dodge), they married in 1796, and William was dead by 1815 when Phebe remarried Joshua Totman. I am looking for information on possible children of the couple, as there are several children listed in the 1800 and 1810 census data. Does anyone have any information on this couple? Suspect they lived in Buckland of Colrain during this time frame. 3. I am trying to locate proof of Revolutionary War Service for Samuel and John Cunnabell (residence Bernardston) in order to join DAR. (Alternate spellings: Conable, Connable, Cunnable plus a few others). I was wondering if anyone can help me locate any government records that could serve as proof of service. I do not have regiment numbers, but the family genalogy indicates that they were out of Greenfield and Deerfield. The Connable Family Genealogy lists their service as follows: Date Company Regiment Apr 20-May 1, 1775 Agrippa Wells Williams Jul 10-Aug 12, 1777 Amasa Sheldon Elisha Porter The following is for John only Sep 23-Oct 18, 1777 Joseph Stebbins David Wells I would appreciate any information anyone might have.

He was a master mariner, and nine of his eleven sons were whalemen, and one of them was killed in the fishery, his father being in the command of the boat. In those days the whales were so plenty that the fishing was carried on in open boats from the shore. One of his descendants relates the tradition, that when his youngest daughter was born, the old man was so disappointed that it was not a son, that he wept because he yet lacked one boy to make up the crew of two whale boats. In a bible record written by James Clark, son of Scotto Clark, 2d, of Harwich, and now in the possession of Mrs. Francis Howard, of Boston, his father's birthdate is Nov. 8, 1710, and his mothers birthdate Feb. 14, 1714, which differ from the dates listed in the book.
