Suzy, I have no blood relationship to the Ellington line, but I can fill in a few gaps about William's second marriage. William's second wife was my great-great grandmother. Mary (Polly) Ward was the widow of Thomas H. Ward and the daughter of James Kennedy and Lean Lanham. Leah was the daughter of Thomas Lanham and Patience Sappington. The Kennedy, Lanham, and Sappington families were all in Madison County before 1800. The Wards were in Fayette County before 1800. In 1870, the widow Mary (Polly) Ellington was living with her son John Wesley Ward and his wife Anna Baxter in Lexington. She died in 1872. John White, who was the bondsman for Polly & William seems to have several connections to the family. I believe his daughter Elizabeth was married to Polly's son W.P. There was also a connection to the Baxters. In a letter to Anna from her mother, Amanda Lanham Baxter, he was referred to as "your uncle John." Wouldn't you like to step back in time and see the interaction of all these families and figure out all these relationships? Do you know where William and Fanny were buried? Do you know the location of the properties where William and Fanny and Susan and Spear lived?
