Hi Pamela, Although I can't help you with the specific marriage information for which you are searching, I'm trying to determine what the relationship was between the Dysart family you mentioned in your Garrard Co. post (included below) and the family of my 3rd great-grandfather James Alexander (c. 1780-1845) who also lived in Garrard Co., KY. I believe James' father was Samuel Alexander (Birth Date Unknown-1784) who left a will in Mecklenburg Co., North Carolina in 1784 (by the way, Samuel Alexander's will named wife Sarah, daughters Mary and Sarah as well as his "five youngest children," Esther, Margaret, Martha, Elizabeth, and James in addition to executors Samuel Pickens and wife Sarah and witnessed by John Alcorn and James McKillip). Samuel Alexander purchased land from John Bertrand Dysart as evidenced by the following records: Book 1, Minutes of Mecklenburg Co., NC, Court of Common Pleas and Quarter Sesssions - October Session, 1782 (Transcribed) Execution of DeedsOne from John Dysart & Wife to Samuel Alexander for 167 A of Land Dated 11th. Oct. 1781, {proved} by Chas. Nickels. Mecklenburg County Deed Book #11 (Transcribed) 409, p 137. 11 Oct 1781. John Dysart of Burke, heir at law of James Dysart, decd, and Margaret (M) Dysart of Mecklenburg to Samuel Alexander, for 60 Pounds hard money of NC, 167 A in the Welch Tract on the south side of Rocky R adj the Barony Line and Thomas Wallace. Wit: Thomas Nickel and James Patton. Prvd in Oct 1782 Ct by oath of Thomas Nickel. Sam Martin CC. After Samuel Alexander's death in 1784, his wife Sarah Alexander sold this same parcel of land as shown by the following: Mecklenburg County Deed Book #13 (Transcribed) 1459, p. 595. 14 Aug 1788. Sarah (X) Alexander, relict of Samuel Alexander, decd, to Dennis Copeland, for 45 pounds, 167 A in the Welch tract on the south side of Rocky R adj the Barony line and Thomas Wallace. Wit: Oliver Harris and John Lewes. Prvd in Jan 1789 Ct by oath of Oliver Harris. Jno. Rogers, clk. Pro. Tem. Interestingly enough, I find one Sarah Alexander (whom I presume to be the widow of Samuel of Mecklenburg) appearing in Madison Co., KY starting on the 1789 tax list. The last record I have of Sarah Alexander is when she signs consent in 1798 for her daughter Elizabeth to marry George Simpson in Garrard Co. I wonder if Sarah Alexander may have also moved to Tennessee as her oldest daughter Mary (who married Daniel Nichols in Madison Co., KY in 1790) eventually settled in Rutherford Co., TN (present-day Cannon Co., TN). My 3rd great-grandfather James Alexander migrated to Randolph Co., Missouri around 1825. James' son and my 2nd great-grandfather John Alexander (1807-1891) married (second marriage for him) to Charity Denny (1823-1911) in 1863. Charity Denny was the daughter of James Denny and Elizabeth Best, both of whom were also from Garrard Co., KY. Some of the Dysarts also migrated to Randolph Co., MO -- the following biography is from the Randolph County GenWeb database of Randolph County deaths: Dysart, James -- 1777 Burke Co., NC-1853 Rand., [s\o John (17 Dec 1749 Chester Co., PA-10 Sep 1842 Lewisburg, TN) & Martha (Patton)], m. Martha (b. 1780 NC, d\o Robert & Mary (Alcorn) Cowden); to MO 1818 & owned land in southern Rand. He was the third permanent citizen in the county, the other two were the Holman brothers. He ran for the legislature as a Democrat in 1850. He was a Justice of the Peace and took the 1850 Federal Census. children: (1) Nicholas, (2) Robert [d. Saline Co.], (3) John [d. Howard Co.], (4) Rev. James E.; Ref: HRM84 p. 673, John Wayland, OFR p. 93-95 John Dysart shown in the biography as being born in 1749 in Chester Co., PA is "your" John Bertrand Dysart. The Dysart family and Alexander family descendants seem to have maintained close ties in Randolph County, Missouri through the early 1900's. I am curious if you (or any other researchers) have seen Sarah Alexander, widow of Samuel Alexander, mentioned in any Tennessee records? Does anyone know of any other possible relationships between the Dysarts and Alexanders? Thanks in advance.
