    1. RE: John Todd, Son of Joel & Nancy Todd
    2. Doug Park - Park Family Historian
    3. The Carthage Republican Wednesday, February 15, 1905 Vol. LI No.2662 "John, son of Joel and Nancy Todd, was born January 1, 1826. While yet in Kentucky, he was married September 6, 1846, to Martha Ann Elder, who still survives him. To this union there were born nine children, six sons and three daughters. Of these six survive, four sons and two daughters: J.H. Todd,Jr., Maryville, Missouri; John E. Todd, Carthage, Illinois; Dr. Richard H. Todd, New Sharon, Iowa; William I. Todd, Burnside, Illinois; Melissa (sic) A., wife of Robert Pace, Denver, Illinois; Amanda E., wife of Luke Funk, Scott County, Illinois. Besides the living children, there are fourteen surviving grandchildren. Remaining in Kentucky five years after his marriage, in October, 1851, he removed from that state, settling in Illinois. In the Fall of 1858 he removed to Saline County, Missouri. In April of the following year he went back to Kentucky, staying there until October 1st, whe he again left Kentucky, getting back to Missouri the last of the month. Remaining in Missouri this time about six years, he finally removed from that state in November, 1865, arriving in Illinois December 1st, where he lived until the time of his death. During the whole of his life spent in Illinois he has resided in Hancock County. The past fifteen years he lived in Denver. He joined the Masonic Lodge in Madison County, Kentucky, in 1851. In the Winter of 1866, at Mt. Pleasant Church in Harmony Township of this county, he obeyed the gospel, being baptized into the Church of Christ by Brother E.J. Lampton, now of Louisiana, Missouri. Thus for 39 years Brother Todd was one of the Lord's disciples. After a brief illness of little more than a week, he died February 8, 1905, aged 79 years, 1 month, and seven days. That he was a kind father and good neighbor, was indicated by the unusual attachment of his children and the active sympathy of the neighbors in his late illness. The funeral was conducted at the Christian Church by Rev. Buckner. The remains were laid to rest in Denver Cemetery by the Masonic Order of this place, of which he was an honored member."
