Seeking history on John Murphy, b. abt. 1766 in NC. He left NC and went to Madison Co. (& surrounding counties) with his 1st wife, Hannah McNamare(a). John Murphy Sr. was a Methodist Minister - there are records of marriages he performed in Madison Co. After Hannah's death, John married Lucy Hughes, b. in McMinn Co., TN. Lucy was very much younger than John when they married. I do not have the dates in front of me, but anyone with knowledge of this family will know what and who I am talking about. John Murphy and Lucy Hughes had children who were among the first students to attend Berea College. Some names are Elhannon and Pearson. I very much want to know John Murphy's whereabouts in NC and who his parents & siblings were.
