Hi Traci, We may or may not have the same Smith family. I was stumped with my Smith's until earlier this year when I made a breakthrough. I still haven't made a 'for sure' connection with the Madison Co. Smith family, but my grandmother said we were related to them. I just found some new information in early Madison Co deeds that I hope will shed some light on the connection, and another generation for me. My gg grandmother was Sylvania (pronounced like Cevina) Smith, born 1842, Owsley Co KY, who married William J. Riddell and they lived in Estill Co Ky. She was living in a foster home in 1850 in Owsley Co and this made finding her parents quite difficult. There was a number of other Smith children living in various homes in that census, too. I've researched some of those 'various' families in order to find clues about my Smith family. How far back have you been able to go in tracing your Smith family? It would be very exciting to find a Smith cousin. I have found a couple of Smith men in Madison Co censuses ( in the 1800's) who were born in England, meaning there are at least two sets of Smiths in Madison Co in those years. The one set was in this country from earlier times, and I believe probably lived in TN before moving up into KY. I'm still putting pieces together. I'd love to hear more about your Smiths, and would be glad to share with you, what I've found so far.
