    1. George Oldham in Montgomery Co., TN, Later in Davidson Co. - ca 1800
    2. Note: The third document cited below, indicates that in 1792, George Oldham was in Davidson Co., TN. At a later date, he resided in Montgomery Co., TN. The fact that a person from Caswell Co., NC is giving power of attorney indicates that George Oldham is one of the extended family of Oldhams from that county. Many of his kin migrated to Madison Co. KY after the Revolution. One of those in Madison Co., KY, at least, Jesse Oldham, was involved in the formation of Boonesborough, according to snippets in the Draper Mss. One of the witnesses to the power of attorney, William H. Rice, was married, in turn, to two of the daughters of Henry Williams, an early resident of Caswell Co., NC. (I have information concerning Rice. Contact me offline.) (Suspicion: George Oldham is not in my direct line, and I have not studied him a good deal. However, I suspect that he was awarded bounty land in Tennessee by the State of North Carolina because of his Revolutionary War activitity. If you have further information, please share with the list. For a brief discussion of North Carolina land grants in Tennessee [not a list--a discussion], use this URL _www.tngenweb.org/tnland/pruitt2.htm_ (http://www.tngenweb.org/tnland/pruitt2.htm) If you use the following material in your own genealogical material, please cite the source. If you do not give citations, your work will NOT be respected--it will be suspected!!! The form of the citation given below, I believe, is one that is recommended for most citations. Just add the page number, and then close with parens.
