The story: Mildred Oldham married and had two children, which she had to give up. The facts: Mildred Oldham, age 14, married Nathan Williams, age 20 in March, 1853 in Madison County, KY. She was the daughter of Jane Hill and Ed Oldham. Her parents probably died as her guardian Joel Karr gave consent for the above marriage. In December 1860 she married Thomas E. Gooch. I do not have the divorce case, but in 1860 Mildred Williams is living in the Joel Karr house. She is a seamstress and does not have any children living with her. Mildred inherited her share of her mother's (Jane Hill Oldham) part of her grandmother's estate--Eliza White Gooch Hill. (Will of Eliza Hill, 1859) Part of this "share" was a slave named Jack, whom she and her second husband Thomas Gooch sold in 1863. Did Mildred Oldham Williams have some children by Nathan Williams? I would appreciate any information you might have on this puzzle. If anyone lives in Frankfort and can go to the Archives and get the divorce case, I would be glad to pay for your time. ************************************** See what's new at http://www.aol.com
My husband Edmund Powell Karr Jr. is Joel's second great-grandson. Mildred was Elizabeth Oldham's niece and second cousin once removed. Nathan Williams is the nephew of Joel and Elizabeth Oldham Karr for his mother Celia Oldham Williams is Elizabeth Oldham Karr's older sister's son. Nathan Williams' father died in 1853 of consumption in Madison County, Kentucky. I do not know if it was before or after the March marriage.
